...9.30...Friday Update...

...well...September is over...and fall is here...finally...but so is Ian...we're hunkering down here...

...and I put up a shiny new Fall banner...
...the flower vase puzzle is finished...
...definitely the hardest puzzle I've ever worked...
...so if you're looking for a challenge...get yourself one of these curvy edged puzzles...
...I sent Amy a picture of the finished puzzle too...
...it's kind of difficult to photograph the actual glory of it...haha...

...on the reading front...I finished the Crucible...it's available as a pdf on Google docs if you like reading books that way...I do not...haha...
...I actually think we read at least some excerpts of it in high school...it seemed awfully familiar to me...it wasn't long...but it was disturbing...it kind of reminded me of reading War and Peace...when Pierre overhears the French consulting about killing the prisoners...and thinks that he is about to be executed...and he has no control over the situation...that feeling of futility...when you can't control forces that have been set in motion...

...anywhoo...now I'm reading Johann Hari's Stolen Focus: Why You Can't Pay Attention—and How to Think Deeply Again

...it's fascinating...and I'm definitely going to try some of his suggestions for being more mindful...like getting more sleep...haha...
...and the sweet little princess Ariel doll has her mermaid tail...
...it started as this mermaid tail (key chain thing-y I think) that I picked up on the sidewalk when we were in Alabama visiting Our Airman...and there it was in my sewing box...waiting for just such a need...haha...
...I found some matching sequins at the Dollar Store...
...so I took the keyring apart and unstuffed the tail...
...made Ariel a little tube skirt and attached it to the existing tail...
...measured the length...
...and tapered the tube...
...and started sewing on sequins...
...it's a little bit tedious...the stretchy material of the tube is difficult to work with...
...but in the end it turned out super cute...and I only spent $1.25...so I'm glad I salvaged the little mermaid tail...and I used a little bit of pink something or other from the stash to make her little bikini top...string and shells would have been more 'accurate'...maybe next time I'm at a beach I'll find some appropriately sized small shells...haha...

~Wishing you a lovely start to your weekend...if you're in the path Ian...stay safe...

...9.29...What I Ate in a Day...as a Vegan...

...I started the day with a bowl of applesauce topped with some oats and cinnamon...and tea...
...for lunch I made a simple (really simple) burrito using some of the pintos I cooked over the weekend...I put a flour tortilla in a skillet...and broke up a piece of vegan cheddar...
...sort of mashed up some beans...
...plopped that into the middle...
...added some taco sauce...
...rolled it up...like a burrito...ha...
...and topped it with some more sauce...it was yummy and quick...
...for dinner...I sautéed some spinach...don't know why this photo is so dark...
...and Griddler-ed some California mixed veg...
...and then just heated a veggie burger and boiled some of those tiny Idaho potatoes...

...for snacks...I had a handful of almonds and raisins...and part of one of the Man's protein shakes...but I didn't photograph either of those...

...what did you eat yesterday?...

...9.28...W.I.P. Wednesday...

...dollie #2 now has both her legs...on to the arms now...
...and my two-toned footlets are progressing nicely...it's a bit fiddly changing colours every row right where I want to change the stockinette for the "princess" sole...just to twist the yarn so there's no gap there...but still...I'll be happy to have the nice smooth side against my foot so it'll be worth the trouble...and of course I'm worried about running out the tan yarn...so I may stop a few rows into the toe portion and go ahead and knit the second footlet...just so I'm sure to have enough of the neutral colour for all of the areas that might be 'seen' peeking out around my shoes...I can always finish the toe with the green...

...what's in your workbasket this week?...

...9.27...visiting...

...still visiting with my sweet sissie...the mornings were so nice and cool...finally...haha...
...we saw this "rafter" of turkeys a few times...and spent some time discussing the different names for groups of birds...raft - brood - clutch - pod - horde - congress - band - host - chime - kettle - murder...haha...and there are probably many more...
...all of the vegan food was delicious...of course...this was my first time trying the Impossible Sausage...now I'll be looking for it at my grocery store...
...we went for a nice long walk up and down the runway...
...this is a pretty new pond on the lot right next door to Sissie's...
...and sort of at the other end of the runway...you've seen this pond before...years ago...
...lots of snacking...seriously LOTS...

...and we watched a really good 'gangster movie'...The Outfit...chosen by Sissie...not too suspenseful...a little bit...but it's really well played...

...9.26...Over the Weekend...

...I did the weekly shopping in the morning...not much of note...they had the Kashi $1 off each box if you bought three boxes...so I did...
...the only other thing of note...I always buy this brand of no bone char sugar...but it's usually the turbinado variety that's light brown/tan...this is the first time they've had a white variety...which is of course nicer if you want to make something 'white'...
...I had soaked a bag of pinto beans...
...cooked those in the InstaPot and froze them in muffin cups...
...we celebrated the Man's birthday quietly at home...I fixed the last of the summer okra...
...his...fried like Mom makes it...and mine Griddler-ed...of course...
...we fired up the grill...
...and we had a simple birthday meal...I had made a creamy Italian dressing...and I think I put in too much of the Italian herbs and it was a little bit bitter...
...I did not make a birthday cake for him this year...but they sang Happy Birthday to him and gave him a cake at Church...
...and his big present this year...was this canvas print of Our Airman...just an iPhone snap one of his buddies took in the 60...but we loved the composition of it...the stop motion of the rotor blade...just the glowing colours...and his pensive look...and the scenery...I think it's a beautiful picture...
...and I'm typing this morning at my sweet sissie's house...we left after Church and drove to her house...and we sat around and talked all afternoon...I don't know when I've laughed so hard...this is one of my nephews (giving sissie the stink-eye) and me in the serving line...because my sissie definitely got the hosptitality gene from our Mama...
...this was my overstuffed plate of vegan goodness last night...and I'm sure we'll do it all again today...haha...

...9.24...Dinner and a Movie...

...Pasta Primavera for dinnner...I Griddler-ed the veg...of course...
...then I made a vegan alfredo sauce...and added the mixed veg to it...
...cooked some noodz...
...and we ate off our trays in the living room...we've been trying to do better about eating at the table...

...and the Man's choice for the movie was Something's Gotta Give...we both like the actor Jack Nicholson...and this was a sort of funny rom-com...I enjoyed it while knitting...it wasn't serious enough to require much focus...haha...

...what have you been watching lately?...

~Have a lovely weekend!
