...with the bedrooom finished...the Man has started refinishing the chest of drawers...Our Airman had two identical ones in his bedroom...they had belonged to the Man and his brother originally...and we painted one of them white for the yellow room and put the little purple flower knobs on it...it's so cute...
...this one will go in our walk-in closet and it'll be black with glass knobs...he's just getting started with wood filler and sanding...kitten had done a number of scratches on the bottom drawer of this one...
...we got a tremendous amount of rain this week...
...and since it's the first of the month...I did all of those little chores...cleaned the Berkey and the dishwasher...how often do y'all clean your dishwasher grates and filters...I think I may need to do it more often than once a month...it was pretty gunky...
...we had a purple onion that was on it's last legs...so I cut it up and froze it...not sure why purple onions are called red onions...haha...
...I trimmed the outer leaves of the Napa cabbage and made a big batch of the Forks over Knives salad...I did it in the food processor this time and it was so much quicker and I like the shredded texture better too...
...we took down the Halloween decorations...
...and rolled the dangling lights back up in the bubble wrap...
...and carted everything back up to the attic...I think I may go into the attic more than your average person...haha...
...we did the weekly shop...
...Aldi had baby cukes so I got a bag of those...and we went to the health food store specifically to get Miyokos and they only had the block no tubs...arghhh....
...I made a double batch of Toby's dip...
...well...of course I did...
...I checked on the winter greens...there are some weeds in there...but the little greens are still pretty tiny...so I'm going to wait a bit to pull them up...
...and it was finally time to pull up the cowpeas...they are pretty much done and I'm going to go ahead and pick the remaining green beans/peas and we'll see if they dry up normally or not...
...first I took the strings down...and just sort of laid the vines on the ground...picking all the peas as I went...
...the vines were pretty massive...
...and so were these fat still green peas...
...all disconnected from the fence...it'll be funny to see the bare fence again after so long...
...and like the vines the roots were pretty huge as well...
...pulled up all the plants...
...and carted them to the curb for city pickup later this week...
...and then I raked up all the leaves and debris and added it to the pile...
...then it was time to plant the second pot of baby lettuce plants...
...the existing square feet of lettuce...already providing us with a couple of salads a day...
...the Italian pepper plant is still thriving...
...and so is the trimmed Napa cabbage...
...so I cleared a couple of square feet of garden to plant the new plants...one right beside the existing lettuce bed...
...and one beside the Napa cabbage...
...but I didn't need the second one...as I got all of the little plants tucked into the one beside the existing lettuce bed...so I'll plant some other winter 'crop' there...
...these are all the green cowpeas...more than I thought...
...I took down Mom's hanging flower basket...I'll take better care of it in the garage this winter and we'll see if it all comes back again next year...
...and here's the pile of cowpeas by the curb...we probably won't grow cowpeas again though...it was a fun 'experiment'...and after stringing them to the fence they required nothing but water...I'm looking forward to seeing how many peas we end up with from that row of peas too...
...oh...I also found a few more okra when I was pulling up the cowpeas...

...10.30...Over the Weekend...
...this was the weekend of the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT...the Man announced his retirement from full time called ministry...at the end of the year...
...so that made Sunday afternoon full of phone calls...leaving a congregation is always bittersweet...and after nine years here that is certainly true...
...but before that...Friday...it was Trunk or Treat... ...so we headed over to the Church parking lot at 5:00...and it was still over 80° F (27° C)...way too warm for Halloween... ...there was already a good crowd... ...the fire truck was there... ...and it was fun seeing all of the decorated trunks... ...so fun to watch the little ones so excited for the candy... ...this one is a car wash...and you have to go through the bubbles and plastic hanging 'scrubbers' to get to the candy...how neat... ...the kids ran for a seat on the hayride...when they got back I heard two little girls call to their mamas...'we're going again'...so fun... ...the trip around the graveyard isn't too spooky before nightfall... ...the baby goats were there again...they're so sweet... ...and the playground was a really busy place...it was all a lot of fun! ...and then Saturday...I made another trip to Goodwill...we have SO MUCH STUFF...it's insane...I really NEED to move every few years...just to make myself go through everything and get rid of what we don't need...and...I'll be making at least one trip to Goodwill every week between now and the end of the year... ...the only food prep I did was to make another batch of croutons...I know I just did that last week with sissie...but I made those super sized for topping our Caesar salads...and they are almost all gone...so I made some smaller ones...I like them smaller... ...and then I worked on our Christmas cards a little bit...so here's a sneak peek...we're using one of our family photos from Okinawa...

...10.31...Over the Weekend...
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
...Trunk-or-Treat was a huge success again this year...it was very breezy and I had to use a lot of tape to hold the Frankenstein onto the car...but it turned out super cute!...
...there were lots of decorated trunks...
...and people started to arrive early...the event started at 6:00 PM...
...this cute couple had to tell us who they were...if you're all hip and that...you probably know...so when we got home we watched a few episodes...they're characters from a TV series...it's not new...Over the Garden Wall...potatoes and molasses anyone?...
...there was a goat...named Harper...
...and a Wookie and a Mandalorian...I snapped this photo just for Our Airman...he's a huge SW fan...
...there were hayrides around the graveyard again this year...very popular...
...a couple of fire trucks...
...as it got darker...Frankenstein got eerier...
...there was a lot going on in the fellowship hall as well...
...there were lots of snacks...
...and games and prizes...it was a fun evening!...
...but before that...earlier in the day...I picked up the groceries...
...all of this is for a recipe the Man found...I think it's called Tofu Marsala...
...the only other thing of note was these Holiday grapes...I do love grapes...they're a snack and a drink at the same time...
...Oh...and I had to drop some stuff off at Goodwill...and it was half price day...so there was no place to park...Good for them!...so of course I had to have a quick browse...I didn't need anything at all...but I spied this cute pumpkin and thought it would be perfect for passing out candy...
...it was marked $1.99...so I got it for $1...deal!
