...8.12...W.I.P. Wednesday...

...well...right after the Pickles replica arrived in Alaska...this little sweetie asked me for a copy of her cute little Guinea Pig...Shooting Star...

...so...of course Grandmommy dropped everything to make another guinea pig...the Airman's Wife sent me some photos...I love that she has a ball made of rubber bands and a little house made from a Ritz box...

...I used the photos to piece together some idea of her markings...

...she's a lot more complicated that the mostly black Pickles was...

...so I loaded up my thrifted tray and got started on the face...

...the blue yarn is just to mark my rows...

...after a few rows...I added the nose, mouth and eyes...and I couldn't get the oval 'rabbit' eyes that I'd used for Pickles so I just used some small black safety eyes...still cute...

...added her tuft and combed it out...

...looking at the photos...I sketched out the colour changes from the top view...

...continued the body changing colours...

...and rounded the bum area...

...made her little legs and ears...trying to match the white parts based on what I can see of the feet from the photos...

...and in no time she was finished...

...she's really cute...

...I hope she matches the original well enough...

...8.9...Over the Weekend...

...with no threat of a deluge this weekend...we had a leisurely pancake breakfast...

...I do love me some pancakes...

...instead of my big pink mug (which holds 40 oz. - 1183 ml) ...a bit much for a 12 oz. (355 ml) soda...I just popped a few ice cubes into my old glass snapple bottle before we left...

...trying the rainbow sherbet Popz...

...definitely easier to pour into the mug...haha...

...there really wasn't much on the list this week...

...I made another batch of chocolate hummus...

...and I baked a loaf of whole wheat bread on the porch...

...and got it all sliced up for sammies this week...

...then Sunday afternoon...we headed downtown...

...to go to the museum...they're actually between exhibits right now...so it was fun just to peruse the 'normal' offerings at the museum...

...I am always more drawn to and interested in the really really old things...like this neolithic animal sculpture from the Qijia culture - 2250-1900 BCE...

...or this “Neighing Caparisoned Horse” from the Tang Dynasty (c. 8th–9th century)...

...these are snuff bottles...

...there was this exhibit room with all this china...and there were books for each display with a page for each item...it wasn't crowded so it wasn't a problem...but what if there were a lot of people and you had to wait your turn for a book...

...of course there was lots of modern art as well...I thought this mask looked like something from Star Wars...

...and I actually love her striped top...of course...

...after the museum we strolled around downtown and into a new to use restaurant with lots of vegan options...I got the pasta and veggies...really good...

...and we ended the evening on our piazza enjoying this beautiful sunset...

...8.8...Dinner and a Movie...

...dinner was a sort of deconstructed pot pie...a cream sauce made with plant milk, flour, and vegan chicken bouillon...mixed veg and cubed baked tofu...which took about 5 minutes to make...

...and some cat's ear drop biscuits made in the air fryer...

...which we just plopped on top of the creamy pot pie 'filling'...et voilà!...pot pie...

...and then I had a second biscuit with applesauce slathered on top...and the Man had his with butter and molasses...

...and the movie was suggested by a friend...But I'm a Cheerleader...it was a sweet satirical romantic omedy...about some people...specifically a teenaged girl who likes girls...and her family has an intervention to prevent her from being gay...like a lot of comedies it was a bit insightful...one example was when she's talking about her feelings when looking at other girls and she says she just thought everyone felt that way...and that's so true of course...if you're heterosexual and you feel a certain way when you look at the opposite sex...you just natually sort of assume that everyone feels that way too...

...and I'm still sort of slogging through The Three Muskateers (Les Trois Mousquetaires)...I'm over halfway...it's a pretty long book...and I guess all of the swashbuckling is just not my thing...haha...it's pretty good though there's enough intrigue to keep you interested in spite of all the fighting scenes...

...8.7...Friday Update...

...I started a pretty big 'project'...not really...it's just a tedious hands and knees kind of project that no one really wants to do...

...I started scrubbing the grout in between all of the kitchen tiles...

...the difference is pretty spectacular though...so it kind of makes it all worth it...

...and then I sealed the freshly cleaned grout to keep it that way...hoping we only have to do this chore about once a year...

...we're still getting plenty of cucumbers...

...and tomatoes from our little garden...

...so those keep showing up on the table...

...and in other news...I cleaned my iron...really well...so well in fact that it no longer has any teflon on it...oh well...it's shiny and slippery now and that's what's important in an iron...and I need to be more careful when I'm ironing anything synthetic...you know...like doll hair...haha...

...8.6...Delicious Vegan Food we ate...

...we finally got around to making the Taco Pasta recipe that we'd cooked the black beans for...starting with chopped peppers and onions...

...and whole grain penne...

...a drained can of diced tomatoes...

...all just dumped into a big bowl...I know you can't really see the peppers and onions but their in there...

...cooked the pasta out on the porch...

...and made the delicious fat free sauce by mixing my tofu sour cream with a packet of taco seasoning...

...dumped the pasta into the bowl...

...and poured over the sauce...and gave it a good mix...

...this was so easy and it really makes a lot...you can eat it warm or cold like a pasta salad..so delicious either way...
