...Over the Weekend...Mom Visit #2...

...Mom stopped by for her second visit on her big circle relative tour...and this time she got to meet her sweet great granddaughter...
...and we all got to do a little baby gazing...
...this little one is so...so precious...
...sorry I didn't get a before photo of this little project...but Mom is very active in her old High School reunion committee...and they had given her a huge long sleeved tee-shirt with the school logo on it...and she wanted me to make it fit her a little bit better...so I cut it down to size...and then sewed it up again...I had to take the sleeves off and reset them above the stripe...but other than that it was pretty straightforward...and y'all have seen me cut down my freebie shirts numerous times...
...and here you can see that it fits her much better...she's so cute...
...for breakfast...I made vegan buttermilk cinnamon biscuits...
...and some cinnamon icing for them as well...
...they were so yummy...Mom and I both ate a whole one...and then split another one before Church...
...and then speaking of Church...I'm just documenting this here so I don't forget...the Education Committee met and made a few changes when the classes promoted the first week of September...I used to teach the Adult II Sunday Class...in this room...but that class has been combined with Adult I and moved across the hall...I loved teaching this class of older adults and I'll miss it a lot...
...and now I'm teaching the Confirmation aged group (6th-8th grade) in this room upstairs...it's a lot of fun teaching this group as well...
...and finally in other Church news...the new fire pit is finished...just in time for the Halloween party in a few weeks...I can hardly believe it's October already...

~Wishing you a lovely start to your week!

...Dinner and a Movie...9/28...

...things are regaining a sense of normalcy around here now...
...and we had some old fashioned comfort food for dinner...mashed potatoes and peas...
...a vegan hot dog...to mix with sauerkraut...
...and some vegan cornbread...
...we sometimes had this dinner when I was little...and I always enjoyed it...

...have you ever had sauerkraut and hot dogs for dinner?...

...the movie was the the first episode of Season 4 of Grantchester on PBS Passport...

...the new vicar was kind of a surprise...no more Sidney...oh well...

...what have you been watching lately?...

...An Heirloom Baptismal Bonnet...

...Y'all have seen The Airman's Baptismal Gown before ...I have it for now...but I'm going to give it to The Airman for his baby... ...the pattern has three sections...this top section is called the lace stripe... ...a diamond pane pattern in the center... ...and the beaded fan section at the bottom... ...the back is a lttle more plain...just because it was completed after The Airman was born...and I was in a rush...and I didn't think anyone would really see the back anyway... ...so the bodice is just plain stockinette...it does have a pretty button detail though... ...and I did complete the fan pattern at the bottom because it would be visible and needed to have the same beaded peaks as you can see it even when you're holding the babe on his back...
...anywhoo...I think I mentioned before that I had found the pattern still in the stash...and you can see that sweet babe is wearing a bonnet...which I never made for The Airman...
...but I thought it would be sweet for The Airman's Baby to have a bonnet...so I got out some cotton and beads...
...and knit a sweet little bonnet...it only has the fan pattern and the lace stripe...no diamond pane on the bonnet...
...it was a quick and easy little project...
...and turned out super sweet...
...and The Airman's Baby will have a gown and bonnet...

...and now...a sweet little gown for the doll...

...so...it was simple enough to size the pattern for the little praying doll...
...I just cut the pieces out of the unused sleeves from the pajama top...
...the construction was exactly the same as the baby gown...except the button placket is made from the piped collar of the pajama top...it needed to be smaller and have smaller buttons anyway...and I didn't have another button placket...obviously...

...and I had to do a funny sort of box pleat at the front neck...as her proportions and positioning of the arms and shoulders required it for a proper fit on the front...
...there were a couple of smudges on her sweet little face...
...but a magic eraser took care of that...
...all cleaned up...
...and dressed in her new gown...
...how sweet is that?...

...Happy Birthday Mom...

...my Mom is making a big loop tour vacation...stopping to see a bunch of us relatives:

...my baby brother...
...then me...
...then my uncle (her brother)...
...my sister...
...her sister-in-law...
...her step-daughter...
...my nephew (her grandson)...
...me again...YAY!...I get two visits...not because I'm special...but because she passes my house twice on this big loop...
***and she'll get to meet her new great granddaughter for the first time!!!
...my nephew (another one...also her grandson)...and he has a new baby as well...
...my only niece...(her only granddaughter)...

...I'm sure this will be a fun-filled trip for her and for all of us...
...we celebrated Mom's birthday with dinner at a new Vegan Restaurant...I love restaurants where everything is vegan and you don't even have to ask any questions...

...we started with the jalapeno cheese dip...it was delicious...but not really very spicy at all...

...I had a hummus wrap...fries and a kale salad...and Mom had the vegan Reuben with red quinoa...everything was delicious...
...then for her birthday 'cake'...we had chocolate cheesecake...so rich and delicious...
...Happy Birthday Mom!

...also...over the weekend...

...in addition to acquiring a granddaughter...
...some grocery shopping had to happen...of note...the old fashioned Cream of Wheat...the old 10 minute variety in the yellow box...it's pretty rare anymore...and the Man swears that it's better...also Gardein breakfast sausage...
...remember back in May...when we had that bad hail storm...well...there was actually damage (I just didn't see it)...and all of the roofs have to be replaced...they've already done the picnic shed...and now they are starting on the Church...they will also do the Fellowship Hall...Administration Building...and the Parsonage (our House)...so that might mean a noisy couple of days coming up...
...I made homemade almond milk...
...I only add a little bit of turbinado sugar, and a dash of salt...
...and then I take the leftover almond pulp and make vegan cream cheese with that...

...and you can see Kitten in the background there...she's staying with us so that the Airman's Wife can have some time to adjust to the new baby...
...and I had gotten a steamer basket for my Instant Pot...and wanted to try making steamed rice with it...
...and it turned out pretty perfect...
...we were gifted a BIG box of already ripe tomatoes...there are a couple of greenish ones that I'm going to fry...
...but the rest of them needed to be worked up rather quickly
...and I decided to peel and freeze these in muffin cups so that we can add them individually when we want that fresh ripe tomato experience in a recipe...
...and I made some banana bread...it's the Lower Fat Banana Bread from the Veganomicon...recipe here...it's really good...
...and I had given you a little update on Jack and Kitten...and didn't want you to think I was neglecting Callie...
...she's quite the sweetie now...not the feral cat she started out as at all...here she is just relaxing in the backyard...
