...5.13...Bride Doll Project...Day SEVEN...

...everyone is probably tired of looking at Dolly's bare top half...so she definitely needs a bra...
...and you may be wondering what a plastic jug might have to do with a bra...
...but I needed some plastic boning for the type of bra that I wore...so I just cut some strips from the jug...they're the right amount of stiff and flexible for a doll bra...

...my gown had a flounced sabrina neckline...which sits right on the edge of the shoulder...so you can't wear a regular bra with straps...
...now obviously no photos of me wearing the bra exist...thankfully...but it was a lot like this one...it had an elastic waist like this...and lace...and it even had a small blue flower center front...so I guess I could have used that for my 'something blue'...
...and I also needed a hook...so I just formed one out of a straight pin...
...and cut off the sharp point...
...and shaped that into a hook that can catch in the loop I'm going to make in the elastic for that purpose...
...then I just cut out the panels...from the cotton backing and the lace...and stitched over the boning with a zig-zag stitch...and stitched it to a strip of elastic...my bra had perfect little channels that the boning slid into...but this one is too tiny for that...
...so then I trimmed the boning...and cut out the area where the cups will attach...and you can see the little hook and loop closure on the elastic band too...
...stitched the little cups in place...
...the neatly finished inside view...
...and here is Dolly wearing her brand new brassiere...
...and a back view...not that there's a lot to see as the back is bare...but I'm really happy with how it turned out...and happy I only have to make one of these...because it was pretty tedious...

...5.13...What I Ate in a Day...as a Vegan...

...I started the day...as I always do with some tea and my small fistful of vegan vitamins...the tea this morning was hibiscus and passionfruit...it's quite tangy...and good...
...then I made rolled biscuits...
...I haven't done that in a while...I usually use the Lodge biscuit pan that Mom gave me...
...but there's something so nostalgic about rolled biscuits...for one thing...I remember Mom teaching me how to make them when I was about 8 or so...
...but also because there's just something so perfect about the texture and flakiness of a rolled biscuit...
...so then for lunch I made a HUGE pot of brown rice...not because we needed all that rice...but we're planning to make Our Airman's Vegan Spam Fried Rice tomorrow night and it calls for 3 cups of cold leftover rice...
...I'm pretty sure I've showed you before how I make perfectly fluffy brown rice...every single time...
...I basically cook it like pasta...in a bunch of water...for about 45 minutes...until it's completely soft and perfectly separated...
...and then I drain it...just like pasta...
...see...it turns out perfectly every time...
...and then I made Sam's Spicy Korean Lentils...I make them pretty often...they're delicious and quick to make...
...afternoon snack was an apple and some nuts...as usual...
...for dinner a made a big salad and some homemade vegan ranch dressing...
...and a big pan of sauteed Brussels sprouts...
...and I got the last two slices of that VEGAN QUICHE AUX FRUITS DE MER out of the freezer...it was easy and delicious...and I'm always happy to use up leftovers...

...what did you eat yesterday?...

...5.12...The Bride Doll Project...Day SIX...

...now...Dolly needs a brassiere...but I'm a little bit daunted by that project...so I'm going to go on to the shoes instead... ...I wore white ballet slippers with my wedding gown...not exactly sure why...I think maybe I thought they'd be super comfortable for a day spent mostly on my feet...better than heels anyway...which I rarely wore...
...you can sort of see them and the nude stockings in this photo of me chatting with a young wedding attendee at the reception...
...anywhoo...Dolly came with these white plastic heels...
...and since I knew these fit her...I decided to use them as a 'pattern'...
...and just using what I had to hand...I covered them with scotch tape...masking tape would, of course, have been a better choice...but I didn't want to go downstairs to the basement and look for it...
...I just trimmed it with an exacto knife...
...peeled it off and stuck it onto a sheet of scrap paper...and traced around it adding a bit of seam allowance...
...got out an old white vinyl tablecloth that I use for projects...
...and cut out two uppers using the pattern...and two insoles...(and yep...that's leftover pantie material...haha)...and a little bit of felt padding...
...turned under and top-stitched around the top of the uppers...
...and stitched the back heel closed...
...and I glued the lining to the padding...
...and we were ready for assembly...

...now...of course I don't have any type of a dolly shoe last for assembling doll shoes...so I'm just going to use her feet as lasts...so I just stuck some post it notes (the sticky part) to the bottoms of her feet...just to protect them from any glue...
...and then I stuck the insole (facing her foot) to that...
...and then I cut little slits in the uppers so that I could turn that under and glue it to the padding...
...slipped those onto her feet...
...sorry this is blurry...but I just used the glue gun...and using as little glue as possible glued those tabs down over the lining...
...it looks pretty hideous now...but...
...I cut little soles out of some ultra-suede...
...and glued them to the bottoms of the shoes...
...they fit Dolly perfectly...and they're so dainty and cute...
...the only thing missing is the little string bow...so I just stitched through the top center of the shoe and tied a bow...I think mine had a string tie that was functional...you could adjust the tightness of the slippers with it...but Dolly's will just be for show...
...and there you have it...little white ballet slippers for the Bride...

...5.12...W.I.P. Wednesday...

...the first grey trouser sock is complete...and overall...I'm pretty happy with it...it could of course be taller...but I used up the entire first skein...so that's how tall it will be...the second one should work out to be exactly the same height...

...I've cast on for sock #2...mid-sock with a provisional cast-on...and I've knit the back of the heel with the Sharpie dyed yarn...and I'm just about the turn the heel...

...of course the Bride Doll Project continues as well...

...what's in your workbasket?...
