Versatile Blogger Award

The Rules:
1. Thank the person who sent it to you and link back to them.
2. Tell your readers seven things about you that they probably don’t know yet.
3. Then pass the award on to other blogs you enjoy.

The lovely Kate at Two Little Cabbages at Cie. gave me the award...I love her blog and all her creativity...Thanks Kate!

the 7 things...I'm trying to think of 7 things I've not already told you...

1. I met my hubby when we were 12 and he sent another young man to the front of the bus to ask me to sit on the back of the bus with him...I declined...
2. I'm a dog person more than a cat person...although I like cats just fine...I've never invited one to live with us...wait...that's not true we picked up a very sick little stray kitty on Christmas Eve the first year we were married...took him home...even named him Fabian...and tried to nurse him...but sadly he died before morning...wrapped in a warm blanket under the Christmas tree...I'd almost forgotten that...
3. Star Trek was my favorite show when I was little...and we (especially Scout) love watching the reruns...the Man and Scout are always amazed that I remember them all...Yep...every single one...and I don't mind spoiling the ending for them either...don't they all end the same way anyway...but oddly I've never considered myself a Trekkie...and I've never dressed as one of the characters...must remedy that soon...who should I be...Lt. Uhura...or Yeoman Janice Rand...It'd be fun to weave my hair like that and spray it blond...or maybe the crazy green alien woman...funny...
4. When I was little at one point I used to say that I wanted to grow up to be a Nun...I remember my aunt telling me that good little Southern Baptists could not grow up to be nuns...we'll see...I was married in the Presbyterian Church and now I'm Lutheran...and they have convents...so...
5. I love to camp out...you may already know that about me though...HA!...and I've slept under the stars with no tent a few times...once on a horseback riding trip...I slept on the ground with my horse right beside me...I remember that I didn't sleep much as Penny kept moving and snorting in the night...and another time...my friend Sherrie and I were having a sleepover at my house and just on the spur of the moment in the middle of the night we took the blankets off the bed out into the yard and slept there...funny what we thought was fun...now I like to have at least a foam pad...and preferably an air mattress...and a sleeping bag is nice too...Sherrie died last year...there's something very sad about your high school friends passing away...
6. I'm quite the multi-tasker sometimes...although I love to be present in the moment and really focus on one thing...I also love to accomplish more than one thing at a time...if it can be done without detriment to the individual components...one example...I read...watch tv and knit all at the same time...it must be a simple pattern though...and I watch the tv while I sort of mindlessly knit...and then during the commercials I read a book that's open on my lap...still knitting of course...
7. ...and along those same lines...I have no problem watching a movie in short increments...I can watch 10 minutes if that's all the time I have and then come back later (sometimes days later) and watch another 10-20 minutes...I think this is because I'm a very visual person and I rarely forget anything that I've seen and visually processed...this drives the Man crazy and he won't watch a movie at all unless he can sit down and watch the entire 2 hours at once...I rarely have 2 hours to do that...so we don't watch a lot of movies together...

...so there you have it...7 things that I don't think I've said before...

The Awards:

I'm an 'Honest Scrapper'

Mirella at Be My Playground gave me a blog award:

so Thank You Mirella!

the rules
1. Thank the person who nominated you and link back to that blog post.
2. Tell ten honest things about yourself and make them interesting, even if you have to dig deep!
3. Pass the award on to ten bloggers you feel embody the spirit of Honest Scrap, and whose blog you find brilliant in design and/or concept.

Ten Things - well I don't know how interesting they are but here goes:

1. When I was little I wanted to be a vet when I grew up - but when I grew up I became a teacher - I worked with a vet enough to see all of the pain involved and decided that I probably couldn't handle that...
2. I took piano lessons first from my Mom (I still have the certificates she signed) then from a local preacher's wife and finally from a 'proper instructor' above the local "House of Music" - and what amazes me when I look back at all of my sheet music and workbooks is how difficult that stuff was - I couldn't play any of it now without a lot of practice - I think I'll stick to hymns...
3. I'm too sentimental - I just sorted through last years cards - Christmas/birthday/notes etc. I put Scout's in his scrapbook - mine in my journal (it has pockets for nick-nack mementos) - the Christmas ones go in with the Christmas bins - but I haven't decided what to do with the Man's - for now they're in my journal too - I guess he's not sentimental...
4. I want to take a pottery class - I think I need another hobby...
5. I want to take a stained glass class - ditto #4...
6. Y'all already know that I love to cook - and you probably know that I love bread - I'm thinking of working my way through the Bread Baker's Apprentice one recipe at a time and making a vegan version of each...
7. I have a wart on my right hand - I'm treating it with Vitamin E - I'll let you know if it works...
8. The only magazine I read is National Geographic - Thanks Mom!
9. I was baptized in a river - people up here think that's incredibly odd - so I love to tell them about it...
10. I have always had a dog - My dogs were:
Red
Brownie and Pepper - 2 Daschunds
Mitzi
Snooper (Mitzi's son)
Fritz Von Gretchen - another Daschund
Champagne - I got Champagne when I was 17 and she lived 17 1/2 years
Duke - a Black Lab
Doobie - another Black Lab
and now Jack - of course - he's 'technically' Scout's dog...

Consider yourself tagged I'd love for you to play along!

Premio Meme Award

Liss at A Memory Forever gave me the Premio Meme Award - Thanks so much Liss - Your meme was great. The rules are list 7 facts about myself and pass it on to 7 people. That's pretty simple...

7 Things

1. I met my husband when we were 12 in Junior High and he sent another little boy to the front of the bus to ask me to sit at the back of the bus with him - I declined...

2. I have an extremely low tolerance for alcohol - generally I fall asleep at the second glass of wine...

3. I learned to knit when I was 8 - my sister and I found an old black trunk that belonged to our Great Grandmother - inside were some quilt scraps and a pair of bakelite knitting needles (size 5 - I still have them) and some thin twisted navy and white crochet thread - and a book with instructions (I still have that too) - I insisted on learning to knit but couldn't quite manage it from the pictures so my Mom (who was taught to knit by a visiting missionary) and my Nanny (whom I never saw knit - she did crochet 'though) taught me to knit - and I've been hooked ever since...

4. My favorite movie of all time is probably Groundhog Day - I watch it every year (much to the Man's dismay) - it's so hopeful - I'd love it if we all just figured it out and got it right...

5. I have strange calouses on both my hands between my index finger and my middle finger - because I always stretch the index finger back over my hand - I don't know why I do this...

6. I'm a multi-tasker - I do things like knit and read at the same time or even open a book on the counter and read while I knead the bread...

7. Once for a psychology class - we tried to go an entire day without saying the words 'I' or 'me' - it was extremely difficult...

That was fun! Now let's pass this on:

The 1930's Housewife

This was funny - it seems I'd have been an incredible 1930's Housewife...

As a 1930s wife, I am
Very Superior

Take the test!

Pure Nerd - I'm 83 % Nerd, 17% Geek, 13% Dork

Hop on over to http://www.okcupid.com/tests/take?testid=9935030990046738815 and take the test - you know you want to...

For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored better than half in Nerd, earning you the title of: Pure Nerd.

The times, they are a-changing. It used to be that being exceptionally smart led to being unpopular, which would ultimately lead to picking up all of the traits and tendences associated with the "dork." No-longer. Being smart isn't as socially crippling as it once was, and even more so as you get older: eventually being a Pure Nerd will likely be replaced with the following label: Purely Successful.

Back from Vacationland...

We're just back from a wonderful vacation at the lake - I'll post about it soon. We stayed right on the 'beach' and the hotel provided kayaks, canoes, bicycles, and paddle boats. We had a great and restful time - we stayed up late - slept late - had our meals at the hotel restaurant and just played. I knitted, of course, but I can't show it to you yet - it's the test pattern for the Knitters for Knockers - you can read more about it here http://campanulaforthecure.blogspot.com/ and here http://sockit-tome.blogspot.com/. It's a great (and very pretty) pattern and I hope everyone will donate and knit a pair.

While we were gone, I had scheduled a few blog updates and it seems so strange to look at them now - it's like someone else was updating the blog - I guess they don't seem contiguous to me.

And I've been tagged by Rachel at http://www.cornflowerbluestudio.blogspot.com/!

1. Five kind things I do for myself:
Knit - of course
Play the piano
Read
Church
Garden

2. Five kind things I do for friends:
This Blog was actually started as a way to keep in touch with my friends and family
I give them my books after I finish reading them and tell them to pass them on or donate them to the library.
I keep their children when they need to run errands, etc.
I'm Cub Master and a Den Leader and you get to be pretty good friends with the boys and their parents.
I send my friends little home made gifts too.

3. Five kind things I've done for a stranger:
I visit people in Nursing Homes who have no visitors - it doesn't matter if they don't know you - they're thrilled to have a visitor.
I returned a wallet that was left in a shopping cart at Stuff-Mart.
I gave money to a man at an intersection who had a sign that said - please give - anything helps.
I helped a homeless man pick up his money when he dropped his cup of change in a busy intersection.
I picked up a lost little girl at a mall and took her to the information desk so they could find her parents - that was pretty scary and so rewarding to see the panic stricken Mom's face when she found her little girl.

4. Five hobbies I enjoy - Oh no - only 5
Reading
Knitting
Embroidery
Scrapbooking
Cooking

7. I make up words - for no real reason - for example - I'm more likely to call our dog 'Pooka' than 'Jack' (Jack is his real name) - he now answers to both...

100th post

Alaina http://idratherbknitting.blogspot.com/ just made her 100th post. Mine was way in the past and I didn't celebrate - but what a fun idea...

She wants to know 3 things...
1. What is your all time favorite knitting book?
2. What finished project are you the most proud of... and... of course, why?
(Pictures worth extra entry)
3. Whose blog do you read daily and why?

1) I don't have a huge collection of knitting books and rely on the web quite a bit - I do have the Treasury and like it - I use it all the time for stitch patterns - I also like an old book "Great Knitting in Vogue" - it came out in the late 80s and they reknit a bunch of old patterns from the 30s-70s - it includes the old photograph so it's fun to see the updates and it has a lot of kid knits.

2) I get terribly attached to anything I've ever knit - but I'm probably most proud of my first socks - simply because I'd been knitting over 30 years when I first tried - who knows why and of course I'm addicted to socks now.

3) My "Favorites" are divided into three folders 1. "knitting sites" - Alaina's blog is there - along with little purl of the orient - needles on fire - Mrs. Pilkington knits - crazy aunt purl and several others - 2. "Vegan Knitters" - - almost all of the Vegan Knitters ring are in there - and 3. "Vegan Sites" which has my favorite vegan cooking blogs - I read a lot of blogs every day.

I have been tagged

I've participated in several meme's - usually just with family and friends though -

I like meme's - it's the word me twice me me and it's also the French word for same -même because everyone answers the same questions.

Sarah from http://soccerchic-knits.blogspot.com/ tagged me so here goes.

THE RULES: Each player of this game starts with the ‘6 weird things about you.’ People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave a comment that says ‘you are tagged’ in their comments and tell them to read your blog.”Six weird things about me:

N.B. Of course I don't think any of these things are "weird" - if I did I probably wouldn't do them...

1. I can still touch my nose to my knees with my legs straight – although it seemed easier when I was in Jr. High.
2. I kiss my dogs on the nose – I always have – and probably always will.
3. I also anthropomorphize everything – my car is called Mopal – the one before this one was called Nellie. The Man-Cub named Mopal – some sort of contraction of the color listed on the tag – Moss Opalescent Green, i.e., Mopal – so you can see that I perpetuate the anthopomorphization as well.
4. I dance by myself (fairly often) – and that’s probably a good thing.
5. I also sing by myself (also fairly often) – and that’s definitely a good thing.
6. I always said I would never be a list maker – but I am now.

I'm tagging Karen for now. I'll have to think of who else to tag.
