We went to the Strategic Air and Space Museum - not really in Omaha - but just a short 25 minute drive away...
...when we drove up - there were some impressive rockets...
...remember we had to pilots with us - so if we had any aeronautic questions...
...these rockets were huge...
...that's sort of a scary shield - but having lived through a substantial part of the Cold War - I realize that scary was what it was all about...
...lots of ooohing and aaaahing over the massive aircraft...
...then I was foolish enough to get strapped into a virtual roller coaster ride with Scout...
...we were turned left...
...and right...
...and backwards...
...and upside down...
...all the while - there is this video playing of a virtual roller coaster ride - just inches from your face...
...when it was over I was pretty wrung out - and very shaky - as we walked around the exhibits I had to sit down on the benches like the 'old lady' that I am...and I used to love roller coasters so very much...thanks to my sister for capturing it all on film...
...we did see some amazing restored aircraft...
...and a glimpse at their restoration...
...Scout had apparently NOT had enough spinning (I definitely had) and he and his uncle boarded the gyroscopic astronaut trainer...
...and they really got spun every which way - but surprisingly - Scout said that it wasn't as bad as the virtual ride - who knew...
...then next up - was a brand new Star Wars exhibit...
...this is the front end of Annakin's Pod Racer...
...and the view from the cockpit - it was huge...

What a great trip - the exhibits all look wonderful! Star Wars would of course be a favorite with my boy.
ReplyDeleteYou are so brave to get into the virtual roller coaster ride :)
