...about 11 years ago the Church purchased this house as a FEMA buyout - as the lake rose to it's foundation...and moved it here...and built a basement and slid it onto it...
...apparently when the house was at the lake - it didn't have a large front deck - it only had a little portico under this overhang - which they just left hanging out there in space with nothing supporting it...
...so after a while it began to droop a little - and the water would no longer flow down the gutter - but would overflow onto the deck and then freeze there in a huge puddle of ice...all winter...
...so we decided to remedy that by jacking that corner up and adding a support beam...
...and a little cross piece to keep people from walking into the post...
...there - you can really see the difference - with the droop all gone...
...we added some railing to match the rest of the deck - and the Man slid his grill into the new little cubby that created - it somehow makes the entryway a little bit more private and cozy too...
...still working on that blue door - I've got paint chips - and we've almost decided...

Interesting how a job can get put off for ages. Then it gets done and you think - why didn't we do this years ago!
ReplyDeleteIt does look really attractive - and when that door gets painted, well, there'll be no talking to you!
Just had a look at the tie dying tutorial. Gosh, I remember making lovely tie dyes back in the 1970's. I remember one yellow tee shirt, lovely!
Goodness. I am so glad the overhang was repaired! It looks great and safe.
