Operation Christmas Child gets underway...

...the LYO met last night to make up the boxes for Operation Christmas Child...

...they had a race...girls against guys...

...guess who won...

...that's right...the girls team won...

...they usually do for some reason...

...the boys tried an assembly line process...while the girls worked fast and furiously on one box at a time...

...some boxes were 'stolen'...

...and then the other side had to retaliate...

...and the race wasn't over until all of the boxes were stacked neatly in the Narthex...

...it was a lot of fun!

...on Sunday they'll make an announcement at Church...they're all going to stand up front...with one spokesperson...who will give the congregation all of the information they need...and then read a list of some of the items you can fill the box with...and then each confirmand will hold up a placard with that item on it...it should be cute...and then they'll encourage everyone to take a box or two or five and fill them up...

...we all have a lot of fun with this project...the youth love going through the boxes at the end and making sure everything is just right...then separting them by age and gender for shipment...

...do you do Operation Christmas Child?...I encourage you to find a location to drop off a couple of shoeboxes...

  1. We do Operation Christmas Child at our chuch too. My children look forward to it every year and have a great time filling the box.
We also do Souls4Souls and collected 800 pairs of shoes!

  2. Yay for the girls! It sounds like a lot of fun.

What a lovely idea it is, as are so many of the things your church does. I look forward to seeing the filled boxes.

Just asked Mr. Google and we do it here - so I'm going to do some!

  4. As someone without children, who's friends only have toddlers, I see so much negative on the news about teens. It warms my heart to see such a large group of compassionate young people. Kudos to them!!

  5. a couple years ago - maybe you remember - we filled shoe boxes with things homeless folks could use and dropped them off to homeless people we found in the twin cities - it was super awesome. i think we need to do a repeat . . . maybe this year!

love the fun and joy of giving!
