...we often see these old abandoned homesteads in North Dakota...and I sometimes photograph what I can without trespassing...but this is the first time I've ever been invited into one for a tour...
...usually this is about as close as I can get...
...taking pictures from outside looking in...
...looking down into their root cellar...I went down the steps and it was really a lot cooler down there...and weirdly...I kinda liked the earthy/musty smell of it...
...an old used up and worn out wringer-washing machine...
...and an abandoned farm truck...
...looking out from their screened porch...
...some enamelware on the kitchen counter...Oh! the colour of that counter...such a deep red marble-y thing...
...a wider view of the kitchen...so large and full of light...look at those wooden knobs and handles...neat!...
...moving into the living/sitting room...there's a window propped in the corner...
...two bedrooms upstairs...
...fascinating wallpaper...in the stairwell and a different print in each bedroom...the stairs and this first bedroom were too dark to photograph with this camera...
...and equally fascinating linoleum on the floor...
...our tour guide informed us that the Scandinavian immigrants used these vertical logs in their outbuildings as they could get by with shorter logs that way instead of the traditional horizontal arrangement...
...from the front of the house facing the lake...what a lovely place...I just can't believe that no one wants to live here anymore...
...it was truly a lovely weekend and we learned so much...

Oh how interesting! It's impossible to find such an old abandoned home like that where I live (perhaps maybe out in the country?). I would love to explore one - so fun to look at all the treasure and imagine those who lived there.

The house seems sad - I hope someone see the beauty in it and makes it a home again.
When I see a house like that I always want to move in, fix it up and make it a Home again.

Gorgeous in a very earthy, humble way. I often feel so grateful for the modern conveniences I enjoy, and am amazed at the fortitude and effort a "simpler way of life" must have required. ;)
