the Easter Dress...

...weeks ago...I started the Easter Dress...

...I already have a dress made from this pattern...but I wore a (handknit of course) sweater over it...never just by itself as a tank dress...but I loved the lines...

...so...I thought I'd combine 2 patterns...one for this dress...and one for a sleeveless blouse...

...and it just so happens that my Mom had given me some of her old patterns...

...first of all...I want to know when a size 14 was ever a 34 1/2 inch bust...crazy...

...but the patterns are very cute...n'est-ce pas?...

...this is the one I chose...the white one...view A...because the princess seams line up...almost perfectly as a matter of fact...

...and I chose this fabric...because I thought it would go with my Sawtelle...

...it's a pretty, mostly grey print...

...and if I'd gone with the salmon colour on the bottom of the Sawtelle it would have been a near perfect match...

...so I got everything laid out...and started cutting...

...and I was amazed at how perfectly the pieces meshed...so I got everything cut out...

...and ironed my pieces and put them back into their folders...do you do that...my Mom taught me that little trick...so everything fits back in the envelope...otherwise you've got a big clumpy mess...

...the sewing proceeded without incident...except that those little darts on the blouse portion...I sewed them where they were on the pattern and they were...ahem...above...if you know what I mean...so I ripped it out and sewed them again further down...and they were...ahem...pointy...if you know what I mean...so I ripped them out and moved them again...and they just looked funny...so I finished the dress...facings and zipper and hem...and then when I was visiting with my Mom last week I was complaining about these darts...and she said why don't you just leave them out...well...y'all know my Mom is a master seamstress...so I took her advise...it meant that I had to re-do the hem as it made that panel about 1/2 inch too long...but I'm so glad I took her advice...

...so without further ado...the Easter Dress...I know I didn't wear the Sawtelle...I did finish it...it just wasn't quite matchy-matchy enough for Easter morning...

...ps...I'll post about the little grey shawl soon...I'm writing up a pattern for it too...it's super easy of course...

  4. Nicely done! And trust me, you aren't the only one who experiences dart trouble. Even when I buy off the rack I find darts are a bit higher than am I. Gravity is not my friend.

  6. I love the way the two patterns have combined to make such a pretty dress.

I love shawls. Sometimes a cardi is too warm and a shawl gives just the extra warmth needed. I look forward to seeing your shawl pattern.
