Undecorating Day...

...New Year's Day is always Undecorating Day for us...

...we washed the Santa teapot and packed it away...

...and we made special snacks for our all-afternoon undecorating job...

...it's the pepper jack cheese from the Everyday Dish - it is so very good...

...we quickly take all of the ornaments off the tree and place them on trays...

...which we carry downstairs - as the real chore here is putting all of these ornaments back into their boxes...

...my favorite thing about undecorating is having everything back in order and back where it belongs...

...so do you love undecorating or hate it?...

  1. hey! yeah, i kindof like it. it's sort of like a "relief" to be done and ready to start the new year.
although i didn't really decorate much this year, it seemed like every time i turned around i found yet another christmas item!

    love, k

  2. I dislike undecorating. The part I like best is when everything is put away nice and neat :-)

  3. It's all the bits and bobs on the tree that take time, we don't have that. We have a small tree with built in lights. It all takes about an hour.

We had the opposite of Karen, as we put the decs back into their little hidey hole - out popped a favourite dec - a tin, jointed Santa - we had overlooked!

    Sorry Santa.

Checked up on your weather this morning. At least you can see for 16 kilometers!

  4. Usually I am soooo ready to undecorate but this year I just didn't want to yet. The tree is down but that is it so far. This week I'll get the rest of the decorations put away :) happy new year.

(my husband is signed in with google and doesn't want me to sign out . . . )

we had a great time taking our tree down - and we really took it down! it was so dry that ben decided rather than drag it out, he'd cut off one branch at a time for the kids to carry out - it worked great! we had one little trail of needles to the front door - not a whole barrage over the whole house!

and we spent a few days in a row holed up at home, too. what crazy storms!!!

    here's wishing you a wonderful 2011!!

    love, elizabeth

  6. I'm dying to get rid of all the decorations but we follow the tradition of keeping them up until a certain day after Christmas. I can never remember when this is but the husband assures me it will be January 6th. I can't wait.

I want to try out that cheese - it looks amazing.

    Happy New Year!

  8. I am happy to un-decorate, but I miss the lights.

  9. I don't mind it. But my girls cried and whined this year..."I will miss the tree! This ornament will be cold and lonely up in the attic!" I should have had some tasty snack like you did!

  10. I like undecorating. My house looks so clean. The "plain" feeling of how it looks goes away quickly, and I feel like the New Year is fresh!

  11. I am not a fan of undecorating. I think I will enlist the special snack idea you use. Being from the south, we used to get the tree down before New Year's. For the past few years, we have kept it up through Epiphany. I see a tree undecorating party this Friday. I do think I will let the kids keep tiny snow villages in their room during the winter. I love that Santa pot!

I like getting back to "normal" but the place looks so bare once the tree has been taken outside. We're leaving ours until the weekend.
