I always enjoy a box of mandarin oranges at the holidays. Sometimes we go through 2-3 boxes and they are an excellent bargain here at this time of year. At Christmas we also enjoy a variety of cheeses, spreadable and hard on various types of crackers as well as dips (spinach and avocado) and platters of veggies and sliced deli meats. Lots of chocolates too. All this is stuff we don't have any any other time of year or if we do it is very infrequent and in a lot smaller quantities.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your cuties.
I’ve made gluten free, vegan Christmas cake which is delicious! Made a small one to try and a large one in the freezer. Our main course will be a vegetarian (also vegan) haggis, they are delicious. I like Brazil nuts but I’m allergic to them! Tangerines are the traditional toe of the stocking fruit, I do like them but it is difficult to find really sweet ones. Though winter is their season so I should look again. I don’t like the traditional heavy fruit cakes, Christmas pudding and mince tarts.
ReplyDeleteMy grandma made her own mincemeat and when I was little she still put meat in it, she used ‘lights’ - lungs! It was finely minced raw then mixed with all the dried fruits, suet, sugar etc and alcohol. A tradition going back centuries.
