They try to 'cram' way too much stuff into the last week of school...
I volunteered to chaperone a field trip for the 4th graders to the Prairie Village. In years past they have ridden the train - but Amtrak changed the schedule and we would have arrived in Rugby at about 6 AM with nothing do do for 3 hours. So we took the bus instead. I took my knitting and the 2 hour bus ride was just what my brown socks needed - I'll decrease at TKD and cast off and they'll be FO.
The Man-Cub packed a deck of cards to play with during the trip - I thought it was interesting that he was the only child without some sort of electronic device...
...so we arrived at the Prairie Village and had a snack...
...everyone wanted to climb the tower - but it was off limits...
...the Land Office...
...the fancy stove in the depot...
...inside the land office...
...cargo...
... the cook house...
...the jail - they do offer a hand-stitched quilt - but no padding...
...inside a Norwegian Church - a lot of the churches here still have the white altars - known to most pastors as 'walltars' because they can't go behind them - haha...
...a gothic window - sort of reminds of the windows in the Presbyterian Church where we were married...
...a very white church...
...the Norwegian Ten Commandments...
...a prairie school room...
...a log cabin built in 1885...
...inside the cabin...
...outside the Church...
...a covered wagon...
...we had a nice visit - and then a stop at the Pizza Hut for lunch - the kids had a really good time!

Great idea to take your knitting along!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool day! There is a pioneer village withing a few hours of where we live and my friends parents work there! She practically grew up there. how fun is that? Oh and you can't beat the extra knitting time.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah and Rachel - it was a fun day - I didn't finish the brown socks last night as planned - I had to work on a baby blanket for a shower tomorrow - I'm a bad procrastinator...
ReplyDeleteYou do have such neat places to go to with the kids. Of course you would use the time to knit. E
