We planted a couple of trees yesterday...
...first of all I dug a smiley face into the ground (quite by accident) but Scout commented on it and we thought maybe the tree will be happier for it...
It's an Amur Maple (Acer ginnala) - it's not a species I was familiar with - but it's supposed to be tolerant of the very alkaline soil we have here.
...we'll have to decide if we want to prune it into a single tree stem or let it keep all it's branches...
...already the little goldfinches love the new tree - I hope some will call it home...
...that's Scout holding his ears as he shoots off some preliminary firecrackers...

Hard work, but worth it!
ReplyDeleteI just love planting trees. When we visit places we used to live we always have to check on the progress of the trees we planted while living there.
ReplyDeleteI think all maples are pretty. The smiley face was funny, I just dig a hole and am never that creative.
ReplyDeleteNice to see your pretty weather and of course the new tree. Hope you had a good 4th holiday. E
