...another 10 mile hike...

...the boys were up early...(after staying up too too late - tent walls are not soundproof - HA!)...it's daylight enough to see before 5 AM...and by 6 they had breakfast started...

...because they wanted to get their 10 mile hike done before lunch...look at those long shadows...we're headed directly west...

...our first stop was this tower...on the highest point in the county...a little known spot...with a great view...

...stragglers...

...views from the tower...

...northwest...

...southeast...

...boys on the tower...

...except one...

...a pretty big rock some farmer pulled out of his field...it looks like it would be perfect as a sign for a development somewhere...

...a crossroads literally out in the middle of nowhere North Dakota...

...taking a rest...

...looking back...apparently I'm the pacesetter...don't worry though the scouts never leave their slowest hiker behind...

...looking forward...

...finally to the halfway point...one of our Dads met us with a 'water truck'...so we all refilled our Camelbacks...and had about a 15 minute rest...notice Scout has his shoes off and is laying down in the truck...funny...they're probably more sleepy than tired...it's only been 5 miles...

...off we go...back to camp by a different route...don't want it to get too same-y...

...more evidence of the rising water around here...this farmer has undoubtedly lost field acreage...but sadly he has also lost access to his grain bins...except by boat...

...climbing that final hill (YES! a hill in North Dakota)...back to the tower...then it's all downhill back to camp...and lunch...

...I just couldn't resist snapping this photo as it looks so much like the old Windows XP wallpaper...funny...

...so...have you ever hiked 10 miles?...or more?...

  2. We had a holiday on Dartmoor and did a lot of walking - one day doing about 10 miles. Yorkies are tough dogs, with his running and jumping streams and rocks he did much more than us!

ND is very flat - and wet! Are you flooded or is the water table rising?

  3. Very nice open land. I have ridden 10 miles on a bike, but never hiked that.
