...Learning to Drive...

...That's Scout in the DRIVER'S SEAT...driver's licenses are issued to 14 year olds here...so we thought we'd let him have a sort of farm boy's head start and drive the truck around an old farmstead...no ditches or traffic...if he ran off the road it would just be into a wheat field...fun for him and his papa...his mama's heart stopped at the thought of it though...

  1. WoW 14! It's 15 here and I still have a problem with it. I am not a fan of sitting in the passenger seat while someone I gave birth to drives me around! On the other hand it does help when I run out of milk and don't want to drive all the way to town :)!

  2. I did that with my dad too, starting at around 12. We're from MT that's how they roll (pun intended). I made some great memories learning to drive with my dad. I bet Scout will too!

14, eh! It's 16 here, but my 19year old still hasn't taken his test. My second boy is about to turn 16, maybe he'll be a bit more motivated. As for my youngest, he'll have to do some serious growing to even see over a steering wheel by the time he turns 14!

  10. Another wow! Here it's 17 but there are quite a few kids who get a go on private land. It does mean they master the controls (usually gear stick here) before going on the roads.

We lived in New Zealand in the 1970's, kids learned to drive in school when they were 15, there were lots of restrictions after getting their licences. I think it's a good idea.
