...this is a long (LONG) and rambling post about all the vegan food that I took photos of in Alabama...not all the vegan food I ate in Alabama...haha...but it proves once again how easy it is to find vegan options no matter where you are...
...so...in no particular order...the ramble begins...
...this was at a Mom and Pop breakfast place in Dothan...I was so happy that they had peanut butter with toast...just like in North Dakota...if you order toast...they bring you a little cup of peanut butter...and I had tea...of course...
...this was my vegan club...at the Castle German restaurant where The Airman's Wife and I got the sweet little necklaces...it was delicious...and the potatoes especially so...
...this was a nice salad (with fruit) that I got at a restaurant...sorry it's so dark...I also had a hummus appetizer there...not sure why there's not a photo of it...
...this was breakfast at the AirBnB one day...toast with Earth Balance and jam...I didn't have any trouble at all finding vegan staples like Earth Balance at the local Publix...
...lunch at the Mellow Mushroom...I got a vegan sub...and potatoes...it was delicious...
...also at the Mellow Mushroom...dessert...
...another breakfast at the AirBnB...a big ol' stack of vegan pancakes...
...we have found that we never need to buy syrup at any AirBnB as someone always leaves a bottle there...haha...
...we took Our Airman out for a 'fancy' dinner here one night...at The Rawls Hotel...
...they had this neat little garden area...in the back actually...and when the Man made the reservation they recommended that we enter from there as it's nicer...
...this was the view from our table...it was all very posh...
...and this is my plate of delicious food...rice...green beans...and Brussels sprouts...
...another breakfast at 'home'...toast and peanut butter and coffee...
...and then we stopped here for lunch...and they had had a recall on their lettuce so no salads were available...I had a baked potato with BBQ sauce...and it was just fine...
...while we were wandering aroung 'Whoville'...(Enterprise) we stopped in at this little Italian place...
...and I got a delicious veggie sub...
...it was packed with veggies...and black olives which I love...and the bread was made in house...the same as the pizza dough...it was really good...
...while we were wandering around Whoville...we picked up a few snacks...
...I can't wait to bake some bread and try these dipping sauces...
...more randomness...I absolutely love this vegan ice cream...I buy it whenever I can...but my local grocery store doesn't carry it...
...it's so good...
...some other vegan items from Publix...
...another breakfast...vegan yogurt...and I had oatmeal with it...but no photo...
...dinner one night at the AirBnB...Our Airman wanted tacos...so this is veggie crumbles with the taco mix from a dinner kit...
...hominy...
...I didn't buy shredded vegan cheese...(they had Daiya shreds)...but I got these Violife slices because I wanted to try them...
...so I just cut them up to make some shreds...
...the tacos ready for the oven...with the make-do shreds on top...
...and dinner was served...the other side on my plate is a packaged spanish rice...
...another dinner at home...Our Airman requested 'funeral' hot dish...it's a North Dakota dish that he has fond memories of...basically noodles...tomatoes...crumbles...and corn...(we were told in ND that it's the corn that makes it 'funeral' hot dish...otherwise...it's just hotdish...I guess)...
...the ingredients...
...I almost forgot the onions...so I microwaved them a bit before I added them to the pot...
...you just mix everything together...what could be simpler...
...and add the veggie crumbles...
...and you're done...
...vegan funeral hotdish...topped with vegan cheese...and I whipped up a little bit of vegan salad dressing with some oil and vinegar and herbs that were left in the cupboard...
...dinner out at a Indian/Mexican fusion restaurant...I had a bean burrito...we all wanted Mexican...but apparently I didn't take a photo...
...Our Airman found this energy drink at a convenience store and got it for me...not that I needed the energy...
...but I did think the printing on the side of the can was hilarious...
'How do you know if someone's vegan...not to worry...they'll remind you...every day...'
...we all thought it was so funny...and we had quite the discussion about how often I tell people that I'm vegan...certainly not every day...and I don't usually even use the word 'vegan' when I tell a server what specific thing I want them to make for me...haha...but it does come up pretty often especially when you're eating out...
...another breakfast at the AirBnB...
...scrambled tofu with vegan bacon bits and vegan cheese...toast and coffee...
...and dinner our final evening...Our Airman wanted Thai food...so we drove into Dothan again...and when we got there we all thought it was funny that Our Airman said that he had been there before with his Papa...but had forgotten that when we chose the restaurant online...haha...
...we had vegan lettuce wraps for an appetizer...
...a big bowl (huge) of vegan tofu soup...speaking of telling someone you're vegan...I did not tell the server I was vegan...but he asked if we were...just based on what we had ordered I guess...and then we had quite the little conversation about veganism with him...he was so sweet...you could tell he had thought about it a lot...
...and finally avocado sushi...
...I know that was a really long food post...but it was all good and all fun...
~Have a lovely day!

My goodness, I'm hungry now!! Really, I am. I think I'll get to the galley and muster me up some victuals! Live, K
ReplyDeleteI am pleasantly surprised to see how easy it was to eat vegan! It was not that easy years ago when i travelled in the States! I'm so happy to see that even in a "normal" town you can find Earth Balance, etc!
ReplyDeleteI love the Violife cheese!
Telling people i am vegan is... almost a daily task! And it comes with all the ... "where do you take your proteins"... ;-) You know tha game hé?!
Did not know about the existence of this "funeral hot dish"! Thank you; i will sure experiment on that theme!
Love your scrambled tofu!
The meal at the thaï restaurant looks really good!
I really enjoyed following your culinary adventures in Alabama!
