...3.13...Friday Favorites...Homemade Sauerkraut...

...we opened the newest jar of homemade sauerkraut...this one has been fermenting on the counter for a month now...and that's about the perfect amount of 'sour-ness' for us...

...we've only been making our own kraut for a couple of years...but it is so easy...and so good...that the storebought kind pales in comparison...
...it's so fluffy and crisp...really the perfect sauerkraut...and it's very frugal...this local cabbage was 19¢ per pound and it takes right at 3 lbs. to fill a half gallon jar...and 3 teaspoons of salt...so less than $1 for a half gallon of sauerkraut...

...have you ever made your own sauerkraut?...

~Have a lovely day!

  1. Yes; sauerkraut is awesome, specially if it's homemade!

  2. Yes, I made it back in New Hill...but it didn't really do well. I did it in an old crock and it turned out more "rotten" than sour....I'll have to look into doing that on the boat. The only problem is that I have very limited counter space...love, K
