...11.16...W.I.P. Wednesday...

...well...I did fix the silky burgundy freebie...
...I used what I think is called the ladder stitch...you stitch back and forth like a ladder and then pull the thread to cinch up the hole...and you can use pretty much any colour of thread...because in the end it doesn't show at all...
...but you are left with a little bit of a pucker where you've cinched the hole closed...I'm hoping that there's enough drape that this won't be very visible...

...and probably Nanny's saying is true..."You'll never see that on a galloping horse"...haha...
...same fix and same little pucker at the placket...I'll try it on and try and take a better selfie...
...and the little two toned footsies are finished...but I probably won't be wearing them until next spring...generally preferring taller/warmer socks in the winter...right?...

...and there's a tiny sneak peak of this year's Christmas cards...fresh off the press...I'll start addressing those after Thanksgiving...

...what's in your workbasket this week?...

...11.14...Over the Weekend...

...I did the weekly shopping...absolutely nothing of note...but things are getting so expensive...
...after the tropical storm....which was very tropical...it's turned off really chilly...highs only in the 40s (abour 4° C)...making it too chilly to ride my bike without a jacket...and I thought I'd take a selfie of me wearing the 'new' white hoodie...but I'm horrible at taking selfies...I need to watch some how to videos...haha...
...this one is in focus...still pretty goofy and not hardly correctly framed...oh well...I'm pretty happy with how the hoodie turned out...you can't see the stains anyway...
...I did a little bit of food prep for the week ahead...I baked some tofu...
...I'm really not much of a prepper...but I do like to have things like baked tofu on hand...I eat a lot of it...
...and I cooked a bag of garbanzos in the Instant Pot...
...and the Man fired up the grill...so I took advantage of that to make some grilled smoky tofu too...
...I made a quick banana pudding for two...using my homemade vanilla wafers...
...and Bird's Custard...we really like this simple vanilla pudding...it's pretty frugal even though the box is expensive in the grocery store's international section...you only use 2 Tbs and 2 Tbs of sugar to make a 2 cup serving...and it turns out perfect every thime...
...I took a trunk load of things from the basement to the thrift store...and I found this top in the 'giveaway' bin...it's my size...and a pretty burgundy colour and a silky fabric...
...it does have a couple of issues making it unsellable though...there's this hole along the side of the placket...
...and another small hole at about the middle of the waist...it looks like it may be a burn hole although the top doesn't smell like it belonged to a smoker...I know you can get burn holes from other things though...haha...I think I'll try to rescue the top...
...and finally at Church on Sunday...one of our parishoners gave us a grocery bag STUFFED full of pecans...I mean really stuffed...it probably weighs over 10 lbs...
...and they are HUGE...it must have been a really good year for pecans...I bet the squirrels are happy...
...and they're the thin shelled easy to crack kind of pecans...you can just squeeze two of them together and they crack open...(you know like Daddy used to do with walnuts)...so I'll definitely be making a pecan pie for Thanksgiving...

...11.12...Dinner and a Movie...

...the Man was fondly remembering the salmon patties of his youth...you know the ones...canned salmon mixed with egg and crackers (at his house) or cornmeal (at mine)...shaped into patties and fried...probably in Crisco...and eaten with copious amounts of ketchup...so not exactly health food...haha....
...so that's what we did...using garbanzos and nori for the salmon...and aqua faba for the egg...and I added both cornmeal and crackers...mixed it all together...
...and shaped into patties on the Griddler...no Crisco...
...they browned up perfectly that way...
...and we had them with some little boiled potatoes and broccoli with vegan cheese sauce...oh...and copious amounts of ketchup...still...haha...

...and my turn to choose the movie...and I picked the Magpie Murders...we're Passport members so even though we're late to the show on PBS...we can go back and watch episode one...it's really good...a little bit difficult to follow at first...there are multiple story lines...

...what have you been watching lately?...

...11.11...Friday Favorites...

...well...it's been a while since you've seen this 'project'...the hoodie was a 'favorite' when Mom gave it to me...and then I got some sort of a stain on the front...and I posted about trying to 'fix' it way back in February...
...so this is what it looked like the last time you saw it...I had painted over the spots with white fabric paint...and I had pronounced that 'fix' a big ol' FAIL...

...but it's been sitting there in my workbasket all those months...and every Wednesday I'd see it there...so I finally decided to try something else...it's just getting cool enough to need an extra layer for riding my bike...and this is just the perfect weight for that...
...so I got it back out...and a couple of the Man's old white t-shirts...the fabric of the hoodie is pretty much T-shirt material...
...I ironed everything so it would lay nice and flat...the stains are all on the lower front part of some sort of diamond shaped front panels...
...matched up the 'whiteness' as best I could...
...and I just pinned roughly cut strips of t-shirt over the front panel of the hoodie...
...and then I just zig-zag stitched around that one front panel on each side of the zipper where the stains were...
...just following over the top of the existing sort of diagonal seams...just that one panel...
...and then I trimmed off the excess fabric as close to the stitching as possible...
...and I could have just left it like that...it looks pretty good...
...but the zig-zag stitch doesn't really match the other sort of overlocked stitch on the rest of the panels...
...so I went back over the zig-zag stitching with another special overlock stitch on my machine...it took a long time as the needle goes back and forth a lot of times to move forward a little bit...but I'm really happy with the way it turned out...and the double thickness on the front panels will actually be pretty nice as I ride through the cool fall air...
...and a close up of the overlock stitch...it makes it a lot neater looking...

...11.10...What I Ate in a Day...as a Vegan...

...Mom came for a visit yesterday...just the one day...she left this morning...
...for breakfast...I had my raw oats...topped with bloobs, flaxseed and a mix of hemp and regular and white chia seeds...they were in three different bags...but the Man mixed them all together in a jar...he adds them to his protein shakes...
...and speaking of shakes...the Man made a banana and peanut butter shake and shared it with me...
...for lunch I crumbled up some firm tofu...added some vegan mayo and sweet pickles to make a vegan egg salad...
...and we had a sandwich on whole wheat...with some chips...it was yummy...
...afternoon snack was just an apple and some walnuts...
...and dinner with Mom...grilled tofu, rice, and broccoli...Mom asked if there was dessert...and I told her no...so that she'd go ahead and have a second helping...haha...
...but there was dessert...these 'surprise muffin' cups...there's a square of semisweet chocolate baked in the center...and it melts as it bakes...so good...

...what did you eat yesterday?...

...it shouldn't take too long...
