...yesterday evening the rain stopped...so we took Jack for a little walk...and we had a beautiful sunset...and some low lying fog...
...there's still a lot of colour even this late in the year...
...wishing you the Happiest of Thanksgivings!

...11.27...W.I.P. Wednesday...
...the 'grey' (really more like salt and pepper) socks are almost finished...both at the cuff now...I'll remove the provisional cast-on and just knit in ribbing until I run out of yarn on each sock...they are going to be anklets for sure...
...interestingly...the weird striped effect is exactly the same on both socks...
...what's in your workbasket?...
~Have a lovely day!

...Over the Weekend...A Day with a Friend...
...I spent an entire day with my old college chum Amy...y'all have seen her here before...and we often have little meetups...but it's pretty rare that we spend an entire day together...
...and we had lots on our agenda for the day...first up was a hike up Pilot Mountain...
...all those times driving past it on the way to and from West Virginia...and we always said we'd do the hike...but never did...
...so this was the day...
...close up of the sign...
...we stopped at the visitor center and got a map...and we learned that Pilot Mountain is part of the Sauratown Mountains, which is a chain of mountains that was named after the Native American tribe known as the Saura. As the earliest known inhabitants in the region, the Saura called Pilot Mountain "Jomeokee,'' which means "pilot'' or "great guide.''...
...and again we marveled at all the fall colour there still is...
...Amy and me...she knit the scarf I'm wearing...it's called the potato chip scarf...
...the views were pretty spectacular...
...all the crags...
...and sheer drops...
...the knob itself is inaccessible on foot...but we had some parishoners who grew up in the area and they said that back in the day...there used to be an old rickety wooden ladder and you could actually climb up to the top...
...and we also learned that Pilot Mountain is a quartzite monadnock. A monadnock is an isolated rock hill, small mountain, ridge, or knob that rises up from a basically level plain or gentle slope... ...after spending the morning at the rock...we drove a short distance to Old Salem... ...and got another map...we've been there before...but it's been years and years...Amy used to live in Winston Salem...so we used to go there a lot... ...absolutely nothing has changed... ...and the Christmas decorations were already out... ...the main intersection... ...some of the little shops were not open... ...the backyard of the Church... ...the tailor shop... ...but the bakery was open... ...you can almost see the baker through the little window... ...inside the bakery...they were having a demonstration...and I took some photos...but I don't think I should share them without permission...it's neat to see the reinactors in costume though... ...some of the houses are still private residences...I can't even imagine that... ...Amy going into the Tavern for lunch... ...our lunchtime view... ...another private house...we had a great time just strolling around and going into the shops and buildings that were open... ...and then we had a couple more stops on the way home...because Winston Salem has an actual knit shop... ...I loved this little sweater...
...it was dark when we got home...but so much fun!

...Dinner and a Movie...11.22...
...we had vegan sloppy joes and homemade crinkle cut fries...
...and the movie was the Man's pick...I think it's been a pretty long time since he chose the movie...and his choice was Dinner for Schmucks...it's a remake of a French comedy Le Dîner de Cons...and I didn't even remember it being 'out' at the theaters...way back in 2010...
...and I really didn't think that I would like it at all given the meanspiritedness of the whole premise of the movie...but I do like both of the actors Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd...and found myself chuckling at lots of their interactions...it is a sweet and sad story about some people who have somewhat base motives for their actions...it was pretty predictable as well...not that I mind that too much...haha...
...what have you been watching lately?...

...Friday Favorites...a Date Day...
...It's not very often that the Man and I spend a whole day together...just being together...we often spend the whole day together...but we're doing 'stuff'...
...this day was an entire Date Day...and we started with breakfast at a little cafe...
...I had dry wheat toast as my options were somewhat limited...and then I just put syrup on it and ate it like pancakes...I had brought creamer for my coffee in one of those little airplane bottles...
...then we wandered around downtown a bit...
...marveling at how much colour there still was on the trees...
...then we headed to this downtown park...
...for a nice long stroll on the greenway...
...we headed up the trail...
...through the tunnel...
...across the bridge...
...over the 'river'...really more of a creek...
...the trail is all paved...and it was a beautiful, slightly overcast day...
...then the Man found a new to us pub...a real true pub...
...they actually had a vegan salad...
...and a veggie panini...we had so much fun...and after sitting there talking for a couple of hours we decided that the 'date' was over...
...and we headed to the hardware store...because we needed a new light over the kitchen sink...
...this old one is probably as old as the house...
...but the Man made quick work of installing the new one...
...I'm loving the shiny new LED one...
...it's nice and quiet too...
...so...even on a date day...we still do stuff...
~Have a lovely day!
