...it's all about the VEG...almost...
...ALL this fresh homegrown garden veg was delivered to our door...
...so I washed all of the green beans...and there are a LOT of green beans...
...then Friday night during Dinner and a Movie...I broke all of the green beans...
...I froze these four quarts...broken...and blanched for proper cooking later in the year...
...and then I just tipped this big pot-full of whole green beans...
...blanched them...just until the were bright green...
...dried them on some 'scrupulously' clean kitchen towels...
...then I spread them on a tray and froze them...
...and then bagged them up to go back into thw freezer...I'll use them later to make these green beans...
...I did the weekly shopping early on Saturday...nothing really of note...except that I went to Aldi which I don't often do...so I bought more chips than I usually do...and Aldi had tofu...that's the first time I've seen it there...it was $1.68...it's $2.50 at Food Lion...so that was a bargain...
...then after the groceries were stowed away...we got started on the tomatoes...and washed the first two flats...
...dunked those in boiling water....for a minute or so...
...and then out of the hot...
... and into a cool water filled sink...
...and the skins then slip off oh-so-easily...
...then cooked those...and sterilized some jars and lids...
...and canned the first six quarts of tomatoes...
...and then Sunday after Church we basically did it all again...and washed the second two flats...
...cooked and sterilized again...
...we were out of the regular jar lids...and for some reason they are hard to find right now...I guess a lot more people are doing home-preserving...so the Man ordered these one piece ones with jars...
...this is our first time using this type of lid...so I'll let you know how it goes...
...and another six quarts of tomatoes were canned...
...it takes longer to hear the little 'ping' of these lids...and it's a different deeper sound...so fun...
...and now we've got 12 quarts of delicious home-grown summer tomatoes to have later in the year...
...and lastly...remember last week when I washed my bike with the power washer...well...immediately there was a problem with the fly-wheel...and since the only thing that changed was the wash...I figured I had either washed away all of the grease or washed some dirt into it...so I cleaned and regreased the chain and the fly-wheel ratchets and spins freely now...and all is well...

Fun to watch all the veggies....amazing that you are gifted so much!! I hope they know how you use them all. I'm interested in those one piece lids - I'll have to look them up. So much nicer than rings/lids. Glad grease was the answer on your bike, it often is in life! Love, K
ReplyDeleteThis is a LOT of veggies! Lots of green beans! Awesome!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the middle of the canning season too... and i ran out of lids too... hope i'll find some this week 'cause i still have some canning to do!
Have a nice week!
So productive, I love it! And the best thing about home canned tomatoes is when you pop open a jar in January, and immediately you can smell summertime. I think I have enough tomatoes left out on the vines to have one more go around of canning.
ReplyDeleteA favorite way we eat fresh green beans is to put a little olive oil in a large skillet, add a chopped sweet onion, slice onions , and the green beans and then saute for a while, they are very yummy. I love green beans and always joke around saying if I ever opened a vegan restaurant I would call it the Green Bean (Bean is my nickname give to me by my Dad when I was a child because I was tall and skinny like a bean pole).
Bean
my green bean recipe up there should read, chopped onions, then add sliced mushrooms, then then green beans. LOL
ReplyDeleteNice to see all the green and red veggie. You've been industrious to get them all sorted, frozen and canned.
ReplyDeletemy goodness that is a lot of green beans!! I love them immensely, we didn't grow them because we have a resident ground hog who eats them...we choose not to do battles with him.
