...chronicling all of the goodies we got on our trip to the mountains to visit our Moms...
...in no particular order...they're all favorites...haha...
...also...happy to be able to post here...but still unable to post on any reCaptcha secured blogs for some reason...I think I may try it from my phone as my Sissie says she has fewer problems with my blog from there...
...my sweet Big brother and SIL came over for a quick visit while I was at Mom's...and they gave me these two bags of home roasted coffee...it's so delicious...we had some at my Sissie's house a couple of weeks ago too...he has a pretty amazing setup for roasting it in a shed behind his house...it smells amazing out there...
...and then my Baby brother and SIL also came for a little visit...also bearing gifts...these are some Annaheim and Jalapeno peppers...they have an amazing garden (there are some pictures of it in this post from a couple of years ago...and it's only gotten better)...
...and Mom packed a few goodies in our cooler before we left...we'd had a conversation about the perfect ripeness of bananas...and as I like them a little bit more spotty than Mom she gave me one of perfect ripeness...an Asian pear and some of her delicious dried apples...she also had some that she had frozen that were from my favorite apple tree in her yard...
...there were goodies from the Man's Mom as well...a CoolWhip container of these delicious black grapes...
...and about a half of a container of The Tonight Dough...that I'd had for dessert at her house...it made it home semi-frozen...still perfect though...
...so now on to the non-food items we got...
...Mom gave me this gorgeous dress (that she wore as a going away dress at her wedding)...I'll get her to send a photo of her wearing it...and I know it's more of a springtime dress...but I'm going to wear it to Church on Sunday...
...and also pair of white sneakers...not sure why the photo is blurry...
...and the Man's Mom was also cleaning out her closet and gave me all of these shoes...two pairs of dress flats...navy and black...and two pairs of clogs...perfect for a quick slip on...
...and the flats are vegan...YAY!
...a whole bag of puzzles...also YAY!...
...so what did we do with all of that goodness...
...we'll I pretty quickly ate up both the ice cream...and the grapes...and the delicious pear...which the Man took a huge bite out of...haha...
...we took the Jalapenos and made a quick sort of deconstructed popper thing-y with them...
...wearing gloves...I've learned my lesson...right Sissie?...
...sliced in half and on an oven-proof dish...topped with vegan cheese and panko bread crumbs...
...into the oven until nice and gooey and crispy and golden brown...
...and then they actually separated back into little popper/finger food...three for each of us...they were perfect...and not too hot...
...and we worked the first of the puzzles...while listening to the Jan. 6th hearings...
...these are 300 pieces...and an easy accomplishment for two people in an evening...
...probably a two-nighter for one person...haha...
...and finally we had gone to the local Mexican restaurant with the Man's Mom...and brought home the leftovers...so that made for a super easy supper...

...10.13...What I Ate in a Day...as a Vegan...
...we're back home...
...and we started the day with some vegan waffles...
...then for lunch...I sliced up some of the delicious pears we'd gotten over the weekend...
...and added some walnuts to make a nice salad...
..."Griddler-ed" some sweet potato...
...and the Man made a smallish pot of chili...and that's what we had for lunch...even though I neglected to take a photo of the finished lunch...haha...
..then for dinner...I thought I'd better use up the fresh veg I'd gotten at Stuff-Mart before it got all wilty...
...so...I washed those sandy radish tops really really well...
...these radishes are pretty peppery...so I'll use them sparingly on salads...
...then I cut the green tops off the beets as well...
...and added all of the greens to a pan...
...and just sautéed them down...they'll really only make two small servings for us...but they'll make an interesting change from spinach and collards...
...then I just cooked the beets whole in their skins...
...and when they were done...the skins just slipped right off...
...sliced them and put them back in the pot...
...with some pepper...
...salt...
...and a big dollop of Earth Balance...
...and this is all of the cooked beet/radish greens we ended up with...
...so for dinner we had Chick'n patties, vegan biscuits, the buttered beets, peas, sauerkraut, applesauce and greens...
...and snacks for the day...were a handful of BBQ potato chips...
...and one of the Jonathan apples...
...and I used the wedger attachment in Grandma's Veg-O-Matic...
...it's oddly off-center...and I wonder why...???
...what did you eat yesterday?...

...10.12...W.I.P. Wednesday...
...first of all let me say that the google/blogger/recaptcha problems continue...so if you're missing comments from me...it's because I can't post them...I'm definitely still reading your blog...(ツ)
...we took Kitten for a visit with Mom...of course...and she flopped right down and made herself right at home...
...one of Mom's Birthday presents was this super soft pink sweatshirt that says Cat Mom on it...and she got it the day after her beloved Twighlight died...she...like our Jack Jack was over 17 years old...
...so...it seemed like it was no longer appropriate...but I asked Mom if she wanted me to put a halo on it...and she thought that was a nice idea...
...y'all have probably seen me do a freezer paper stencil more often than necessary...so I made one of those... ...and ironed it in place over the kitty-cat's ears... ...at a jaunty little angle...
...and started painting with the gold fabric paint...the first coat you could barely see...but if you remember way back when we lived in West Virginia...and I did the WV shirt (also pink) with the silver fabric paint...I remembered that it took a lot of coats...
...and then we moved on to other crafty projects that Mom wanted to accomplish while I was there... ...Mom already had a bunch of craft paints...so I just chose a nice bright green to paint this frog... ...and then I mixed that with some yellow to make a different colour for his belly and spots...and I painted his straw hat brown and the turtle's underside an olive-y green/brown...I'll come back after it dries and paint the face details on both... ...and then she also had this greenish-gold smaller turtle that had gotten his face chipped...so I painted his face and legs/paws/feet the same green as the other turtle...but left the shell it's original gold colour... ...and then we took a break for a nice lunch of leftovers...with some corn on the cob added...and we set up a card table in the living room in front of the picture window for the gorgeous view of the fall foliage... ...and then we were back at it...haha...Mom had a sort of large Black Bear...that held a WELCOME sign...and it had gotten faded and worn over the years...so she wanted to refurbish it...
...and I started with the Welcome sign...it was stenciled on plain wood and you could still see the outline of the original letters...sorry I didn't take a photo of what I did with it...but basically I took a ball point pen and kind of engraved around the letters...because...the board needs to be sanded so that Mom can put some poly on it...and I didn't want to sand off the letters...so here it is...slightly embossed and ready for sanding... ...Mom painted the entire Bear black and it was already dry...
...and we rummaged around in the barn and found an old-old-old can of dark brown paint...and I mixed it to make it sort of bear-paw-coloured...and painted his paws, face, and ears with that... ..and left that to dry outside on a gorgeous day... ...and then using the indentions made with the ball point pen...I painted one coat of bright red on the WELCOME sign... ...and then we decided that it would stand out better if we outlined each letter with a thin line of black...so we did that and added a second coat of the bright red... ...went back and painted the face on the frog and turtle... ...and also on the little turtle...just with black... ...you can still see his kind of smushed face...but it looks better than it did... ...here he is on the (now covered) porch... ...with his friends... ...so...now...back to the bear...I painted his nose and toenails black...and his eyes got brown irises... ...and finally a fleck of white highlight in each eye... ...tried out the sign...and we really liked the effect... ...after about FIVE coats of the gold fabric paint we removed the stencil to reveal the cute little gold halo...I think it looks super cute...and like it was just always there... ...and finally Mom spray painted the sign with a clear coat (also found in the barn - and probably 30 years old)...but it worked fine and I think the refurbished bear looks great on the back porch now...
...we had a great time crafting together...
...so...what's in your workbasket this week?...
