...FUN-nel cakes...and fried Oreos...

...what could be better after pizza on family movie night...than some fried oreos and funnel cakes...vegan versions of course...
...so we got out some oil...and everything to make a sort of pancake batter...
...got the oil smokin' hot...and mixed up the batter...
...got out the Oreos...and we were ready to go...
...Scout is apparently a pretty good 'supervisor'...I was just worried about all that hot oil...
...but they dipped their cookies...
...and carefully put them into the oil...
...waited until they were golden...
...and then carefully flipped them over...
...drained on paper towel...and sprinkled with powdered sugar...
...then they filled a funnel with the leftover batter...
...and drizzled that into the hot oil...
...fried until golden...
...and sprinkled with sugar...

...I did not eat any of these luscious creations...but the kiddos pronounced them delicious...just like at the fair...

{FUN}nel Cake Batter

1 egg equivalent - we used EnerG egg replacer
2/3 cup soymilk
1 1/4 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder

2 cups vegetable oil for frying...we used peanut oil...

~Have a lovely day!

...Oh...I almost forgot the movie...Scout's pick...the oddly sweet Corpse Bride...he loves Tim Burton...and the Nightmare Before Christmas has been a favorite of his since he was about six...

  3. The funnel cake looks like churros, deep fried, battered Oreos remind me of the deep fried, battered Mars bars famous in Scotland!

  4. Gosh. It has been more than a decade since I had a funnelcake. And I've never had a fried oreo--though I eye them constantly at the street fairs where we sell our tie-dye. I've never once thought of making them at home. Hmmmm....this seems like something to file away for some very special occasion. Also, funnel cakes are made with a funnel--why did I never put this together?! Huh! Learn something new every day.
