...12.1...Over the Weekend...

...well of course Friday the day after Thanksgiving was dedicated to decorating for Christmas...so after working in the yard all day...we got out the Christmas lights that we had carefully rolled up in a loooonnnnggg sheet of plastic and paper last year so they wouldn't get tangled...and it worked perfectly...we had them unrolled and installed on last years 3M hooks in no time...
...then we got out the big tree and all of the totes of Christmas ornaments and other Christmas bits and bobs...
...first up was a double strand of white lights and the pretty Christmas star...
...it's pretty enough just like that...
...but of course we added a couple of hundred ornaments...and a bunch of presents underneath on the (white sheet) snow...
...and then I promised to show you the Man's new security flood light in the back...he's still tweaking it as it notifies us a bit too often...
...so I stood really still at the corner of the garden to get a photo of just the Christmas lights on the back porch before it noticed any movement again...
...and then I walked around front to take a photo there...the Man also put these lights on a timer from sundown to about 11 PM...so that will be nice not to have to go out and manually turn them on...and I put new batteries in the wreath I got at the thrift store and lit it up as well...but that will be a manual turn on and off...and the lights are the warmer white which doesn't really match the frosty icicle ones...oh well...still pretty though...
...and then we were too tired to continue decorating...so Saturday morning...after a quick breakfast of overnight oats...there not really overnight...I always make them in the morning...oats...soymilk...flaxseed...walnuts and an apple...
...I got the little tree set up in the window of the dinette...so it can cheer us when we're in the kitchen and also the people who walk the alleyway behind our house...
...then...we set out for the weekly shopping...
...and it was a very very small shop this week...we still have so much food in our fridge from the holidays and I want us to eat as much of it as possible...I did go to the health food store and get the thick rolled organic oats and a packet of pumpkin pie spice...
...which I used to make some gingersnaps...
...they're good...super crispy...so I think I'll bake them a little bit less next time...
...and then I tackled a little project that I'd been meaning to do for several months...
...I made these simple little wooden bracket/support thingies out of some scrap wood we had in the garage...and found the studs and screwed them to the wall...
...I just did the brackets because we don't really need a shelf to store these two pieces of seldom-used lawn equipment...the hedge trimmer and the pole saw...probably only used once or twice a year...and they were stored in their boxes taking up floor space and I wanted them up out of the way...mission accomplished...
...and then because we don't have enough food crammed into our refrigerator right now...we made a big pot of soup...
...and the obligatory cornbread accompaniment...for a delicious chilly night supper...
...oh...and one last thing...the Christmas cards have arrived...so much FUN!...a photo of all of us from when the kiddos visited in April...

~Wishing you a lovely start to your week!

  1. Amazing, I’m pretty sure I made ginger cookies on the same day as you! We must have been twins with ESP in another universe!😍 love, K
