...there was no Dinner and a Movie Friday....well there was dinner...but no movie because the power was out all evening...
...a pretty violent thunderstorm blew through about 5 PM...knocking down one dead pine tree and one live one...it hit the crepe myrtle and took out about half of it...and there were lots of smaller branches down in the back yard...that one that's stuck up in the ground is buried about 18 inches in the ground...which was already pretty soft because we'd had a lot of rain already...
...this is the crepe myrtle that was damaged by the pine tree...
...it's not a small pine tree...and the whole backyard smells like Christmas...
...and then over at the Church behind the picnic shed the wind took down two huge hickory trees...
...if you know what hickory nuts smell like the air was redolent with that...and also a more earthy root-y smell...
...so destructive...we were glad there was no one there and that the trees didn't hit the picnic shed...
...one of them did smash the new fire pit...
...it was just finished last September...so that was kind of sad...
...what a mess...
...I always thinks it's sad when trees die...
...we just sat around and read during the daylight...and then when it started to get dark and we gave up on getting power back to cook dinner...we lit some charcoal and grilled some tofu...and opened a can of vegetarian beans...so we did have dinner just no movie...
...and then about 10:30 PM...the power trucks came and got the power restored...it's funny when you think about human history and what a short period of time we've had electric power in our homes...but we are certainly dependent on it...and I was really thankful that it was back on in time for showers and bed...
..then on Saturday morning...one of our sweet parishioners sent us this lovely fruit basket and flower arrangement...so we wiped it all down and washed the fruit...I'll plant the flower outside...it has instructions (or constructions as Our Airman used to say)...I ate a pear and it was lovely...I've had apples, oranges and bananas in my grocery cart...but no pears...so that was nice...
...and speaking of groceries...I FINALLY got a bag of carrots...but oddly no tofu...so they subbed tempeh...which is fine with me...other subs were regular raisins instead of golden ones...and lime flavored chips instead of plain ones...so it was a pretty successful shopping trip...haha...
...I still had one firm block of tofu in the fridge...so I baked that ...
...and while the oven was on...I made a pan of cornbread muffins in my biscuit pan...and that's about all the food prep I did...
~Wishing you a lovely start to your week!

Too bad about the fire pit, but it could have been a lot worse! We may have lost power but it's hard to tell when we're on the boat. The batteries take over for most things when we're not plugged in so it's hard to tell sometimes. The grilled tofu sounds nice anyway. Glad you're back near normal. Love, K
ReplyDeletewhenever the power goes out here I dread it because there was a few times when it was out for 2-3 days and it drove me crazy! Now it seems that they've cut down the dead trees and luckily so far (fingers crossed) that fixed the problem.
