...this is our current view...it's really chilly...but quite beautiful...
...I put in the InstaCart order early Thursday...because of the impending storm...and had to wait a day and half to pick up the groceries...
...the only things we didn't get were the canned beans...and they often sell out before a storm...because they are easily heated up without power...
...of note...we did get spinach this week...but in the box instead of the bag...and we got Just Egg...yay!...
...I got out the waffle plates for my new griddle...
...gave them a quick wash...
...popped them in place...and mixed up some of the Man's pancake mix with some Silk and Just Egg...
...and made a delicious brunch of waffles...
...and then because we were fully expecting the power to go out...we did a little bit of prep for that...I filled up the 5 gallon water jugs...you know...so we can make tea...and flush toilets...and such...haha...
...we also got out our little camping stove...got the generator ready to pull into the back yard...got out flashlights and candles...and filled a cooler with ice for the things that we would likely need to be getting into the fridge multiple times for...
...they were calling for snow...followed by sleet...followed by freezing rain...and luckily we never got much of the freezing rain which is what weighs down branches and power lines and usually causes power outages...and a few minutes spent preparing can make the whole experience a little easier...
...and then the Man wanted one of his favorite Lemon Bundt cakes to snack on...and of course cake doesn't need to be heated or anything...so I greased and floured my old old Bundt pan...
...and got out a mix and a pudding and a lemon...I just follow the recipe subbing vegan eggs for the eggs...everything else is accidently vegan...
...mixed it all up...
...and into the pan...
...perfectly baked...
...bundt cakes are so pretty...dontchyathink?...
...and then I got out another one of my Christmas pressies...to play with...
...mixed up the pasta...seriously...just 2/3 cup semolina...1/3 cup AP flour...1/2 tsp. salt...
...and enough warm water to make a fairly stiff dough...
...I set a timer and kneaded it for 5 minutes...
...it got pretty smooth...
...I stuffed it into the press/extruder thingy...it was exactly enough...
...and I'm making macaroni...
...this is so much fun...
...I'm sure Our Airman had a little Playdough toy that worked just like this...haha...
...the little macaroni are bigger than I expected...
...and they get even larger as they cook...I was a little bit worried that they would just fall apart...
...but they did not...they cooked up nice and firm...
...and just plain...they tasted AMAZING...
...and the press really did 'extrude' almost every single drop of the dough...that die is kind of hard to clean though...I finally just held it right up to the faucet and let the force of the water clean it out...
...and then YIKES!...we got the alerts (our phones are set to receive Kadena's alerts) that a tsunami was headed for Japan...and it's about 3 AM over there...but we figured that Our Airman's phone was going crazy too...and he'd be awake...he said there was nothing to worry about as the seawall is 4 meters and they were only expecting waves less than 3 meters...so that was a relief...
...so then...I mixed up a roux...
...and added some Violife cheddar...
...added the fresh macaroni...
...they're probably twice as large and the regular elbows...
...and baked that...
...we'll have leftovers too...
...seriously delicious...
...I made a pot of rice...as we can heat that up with some beans or soup fairly quickly...
...and the Man made a delicious lentil soup...using his favorite Ras el Hanout spice...
...and I made a half loaf of bread in the bread machine...
...and ate the top heel while it was still too hot to touch...haha...so delicious...
...and then we made some of our red popcorn...
...almost every kernel popped...
...then we lit a nice fire in the fireplace...we kept a fire all day Sunday...but we didn't really need to as the power never even flickered...
...and settled in with out critters...who were quite cozy in the warm den...
...ate our popcorn...and called it a day...
...and as forecasted...we woke Sunday to a couple of inches of snow...Church was cancelled...
...and then it sleeted for most of the day...making such a nice pattering sound...
...so although it looks white and snowy...it was really a mushy slush...and I did not ride my bike...haha...
...by evening the precipitation had mostly ended...
...except for one more skiff of snow as the temperature fell again...
...it's so pretty and quiet...there's no traffic...just wind and snow...
...wishing you a lovely start to your week!

That was a long post!!! Enjoyed "visiting" with you. Glad you didn't lose power, that's always a pain. Looks like you had a nice weekend regardless. I've never made pasta - neat-o. Love, K
ReplyDeleteHey K,
Delete...haha...I know it was really long...and although we were prepared I'm still glad the power didn't go out...
Love,
T
lovely snow! and that pasta looks amazing - I have never made it from scratch.
ReplyDeleteHi Karen,
Delete...it was mostly sleet on top of snow...still pretty though...and the pasta was a lot of fun...
~Have a lovely day!
We had a storm with wind and 35cm of snow on monday. And we are having 10cm more today. Sick and tired of shoveling ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour waffles looks so good!
I'm about to make a lemon cake! But not as pretty as yours because i'm using a "drab" mould.
Those macaronis turned out perfect!!! Yeah!!!! And the dish you made with those is mouthwatering!
Have a nice rest of the week.
Cuddle to JackJack!
Hi Éphée,
Delete...thanks...the lemon cake just uses a vegan (accidently) mix so it's super easy...and the past was a lot of fun...Jack sends his love...
