...this is the space where we removed the over the stove microwave unit...it was brand new...still had the packing styrofoam and the manual inside...so we donated that...and we're going to replace it with just a standard over the range version with a light and a fan...
...so this week the Man needed to do some wiring...I'm afraid of electricity so if there's wiring to be done...it's almost always the Man who does it...
...we wish that the range hood was vented to the outside but it is not...there's really no way to do that as this is an interior wall and we'd have to have a hose about 16 fee long and a fan strong enough to push the air outside...so we opted to just use the standard version with charcoal filters...more on that in a bit...
...and since the dedicated breaker for the microwave is inside the cabinet over the stove...and I now need it to be beside the stove on the counter where the new convection/microwave will sit...it has to be moved and that outlet has to be re-routed to connect to the rest of the counter outlets on that side of the kitchen...I hope that sort of makes sense...anywhoo...it's a pain to cut into and patch walls like this...
...I didn't have a stud to attach the patch to here...and it's small so I just clamped a piece of scrap wood to the existing sheetrock and screwed it in place and then removed the clamp and screwed the patch to the wood there...it should be strong enough...and this area will get a new tile backsplash...as soon as we get the cabinets painted white...if you know me...you had to know that was coming...haha...
...I could have cut out a single piece...
...but I'm just using up scraps of sheetrock...
...and I don't mind the extra seam...
...it'll be covered by tile anyway...
...and a first coat of spackling is done...
...and back to the past...a bunch of small things were accomplished...
...and the Man replaced the front door knob...
...with one of those that you can open with a code instead of a key...that will be handy...especially for walks and bike rides...as I won't have to keep up with a key...
...and we tore off the drywall face of the fireplace...it's a gas insert...not sure we're going to keep it...
...and like the strange closet space upstairs...the construction of this led us to believe that it was an afterthought addition too...
...the structure was just crazy...with studs that didn't meet up where they should...
...and a gazillion (exageration) nails going every which way...
...but...I'm already eyeing that unused space under the stairs thinking of a way to access it for some extra temperature controlled storage...
...several lights got replaced with new leds...
...the main kitchen overhead light...
...and the one over the kitchen sink...
...the fixtures will also be replaced with chrome when we do the backsplash...
...and this one in the den...that used to be the dining room...
...just imagine it with deep red walls...
~Have a lovely day!
