Brideshead Revisited

I finished the book
Maureen sent a couple of weeks ago and have been trying ever since to sneak in time to watch the BBC series...
...it was good - it is over 11 hours long though - I don't think it took me 11 hours to read the book and sometimes I felt like 'Charles' was reading it to me again...

I think I liked the book for the some of the same reasons that I like Scrooge so much - grace, redemption and hope...

  1. I love the beginning, Charles returning to Brideshead. It reminds me of the start of 'Rebecca' -

"Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again"

I first heard it as a radio serial in 1970 - long time ago!

Incredible to think that that fantastic and enormous house was a family 'country' home. My grandmother and my husband's grandmother were servants to such families. These massive houses were like villages, before WWI, hundreds of people would work there.

I know I've never read the book and I'm pretty positive I've never seen the series. I'll have to add it to my list and get it from the library when I find time. Oh, how nice it would be to have nothing to do but read books and watch BBC series! Especially on these cold winter-y days! :)

I have to say that A Christmas Carol is one of my favorite movies this time of year. I always tear up at the end. There IS forgiveness for anyone seeking it.
