Happy Mother's Day!

I had a pretty traditional Mother's Day - although our Sunday mornings are rather more hectic than most I imagine...
...I love packages...

...especially knowing what's inside...

...lovely flowers - and there was some perfume too - so like I said a pretty traditional Mother's Day and a cookout this afternoon - so no cooking - not that I mind cooking...

...but what I really wanted to show you was my Mom's little prezzie...

...remember that vintage material that I said I was going to turn into a copy of my Nanny's apron - well - imagine my surprise when I unfolded it and found that it had already been cut into a dress and partially sewn...

...it makes me wonder even more about the lady who bought the material - who she was making the dress was for - why did she never finish it...etc...

...some of the seams had been basted and others were pinned - all of the pieces seemed to be there - but of course - there was no pattern...so that's what the zipper and piping were for...

...I still wanted to make an apron...

...so...I was thinking and thinking...and I immediately thought of Mom and making the dress for her - but then I thought - she rarely wears dresses anymore - but wait - I could cut off the bottom of the dress to make the apron...and then maybe make the top into a blouse too...
...so that's exactly what I did - I gathered and set in the sleeves - and put the zipper in the back - and on the bottom - I opened up the side seams for about 5 inches or so from the bottom...

...this was the first time that I had ever used piping - so I looked at Nanny's apron for some direction - not sure I did it exactly right - but I think it looks nice...

...it's very fitted with lots of darts and gathers - I think it will fit Mom well and I hope to see a picture of it soon...

Happy Mother's Day, Mom!

And a fantastic idea to turn the dress into a top! Very creative! I'm sure she will love it.

    Happy Mother's Day to you!
