...first up...a little peak at my 'garden'...which is really just 12 butternut squash plants...planted in the mulch around the back of the house...and a basil plant...
...they're doing really well...lots of bright yellow blooms...but oddly...as far as I can tell right now anyway...they're all male...
...and the last time I was at Mom's she had given me this bag of trousers that she wanted narrowed and hemmed...they had rather wide legs and they were too long...and she wants them to be more fashionably tapered and be shorter so she can wear them with flats instead of heels...
...and I took this brown pair to use as a guide because she said they fit her well and she liked the cut of them...so I just turned everything inside out...and used the brown trousers as a pattern...and you can see how much too wide and too long the red ones are...
...just a couple of cuts and they were ready to be serged and stitched...
...the white pair had a lining...so it was really just like two pairs of pants...and I used the same method on both the lining and the outer fabric...
...and here they are stitched and ready for hemming...
...the neatly serged edges...and you know that's what took the longest of the whole venture...I broke one of the threads in my serger...now normally I just tie a knot to the new coloured threads and pull each of them through...there are three of them...two are pretty easily reached but that third one...of course the one that broke...is not...and I probably spent an hour with a magnifying glass, tweezers, and a flashlight trying to get it threaded...so I was so happy when I finally succeeded...
...the white ones...I hemmed the lining on the machine...now I just have to turn under the actual hem...
...so I overlayed the 'pattern' and pinned those up...
...and now they're all completely finished and on their way...Mom stopped by on her way home from visiting her brother...the plan was that she'd spend the night with us...but now...sadly...she's been exposed...so no visit with Mom...hopefully everyone will remain healthy...

How nice that you are doing alterations for your mom. This is one of my least favourite jobs, lol and so right now I have a lot of trousers that need altering. They would look and feel better if I just got to it.
ReplyDeleteyour mom is so lucky to have you help her with the altering, she is going to love them!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen,
Delete...yeah...I made her try them on and send pics...haha...they really do fit her much better now and I'm happy that she can wear them with flats now...
~Have a lovely day!
