...3.15...New House Update...now and then...

...we took the railing down around the little landing in the garage before they came to put the carpet in...and then we left it off so that we could move our furniture in...and finally we left it off until Mom came and got the red loveseat...
...so it was finally time to get the railing back up...the bucket is there for the Man to throw all of the nails in...for some reason they nailed the railing up...which makes it very difficult to remove and reinstall...
...so of course we used screws when we reinstalled it...and it's a lot more secure and sturdy now too...

...we're still working on the Master bathroom...I've patched and sanded the holes left by moving the light fixtures up...and the Man has finished all of the cutting in and is ready to roll the rest of the walls...

...other than that we've been doing a lot of yardwork...we've raked and fertilized and mowed the yard for the first time...and you've already seen the weeding progress...

...now back to the past...
...the glass partition doors arrived...a single one for the hallway...
...and a double one for the den...
...the single one in the garage...
...the double door for the den...
...and the one for the kitchen...
...and the new transoms arrived as well...I think I mentioned that when we measured for the glass doors we determined that they wouldn't fit under the existing trasoms...so they have to be replaced...
...and we'll be using this type of hanger to install the doors...it's supposed to make it easy...we'll see...
...so we removed all the trim...and the existing transoms...
...and hung the new door...in the hallway...
...added the new transom...
...looking back into the big room...
...we scraped all of the caulk off the the trim pieces so we could put them back in place...
...they really used a lot of caulk...
...hallway door...transom...and trim...
...the double doors into the den...they were actually easier to hang than the single one...or maybe we're just getting better at it...haha...
...there was such a gap and a mess of caulk at the bottom of the stairs where it meets the door trim...
...so I took it all out and re-constructed that area of the stair trim...so that there is only this small line for caulk...
...and then we started painting the new doors...
...and the Man installed the pretty glass knobs...
...I prefer spackling for nail holes...instead of caulk...because you can sand it nice and smooth...
...and we replaced all of the brass hardware...
...with antique bronze...you can see part of the door hanger system in this photo too...
...the doors have a plastic film over the glass...
...but the transoms need to be taped...
...so the tedious painting of all the little mullions can happen...
...more to come on these doors...
...the den side still has to be done...
...but the hallway one is finished and I'm really happy with it...

~Have a lovely day!

  2. It's nice that both you and your husband are willing and able to do the repair work yourself. You're doing a great job.
