...the Man said he wanted burgers and fries for dinner...so I turned on the oven...you know...for the crinkle fries that are in a bag in the freezer...haha...
...but he said he didn't want 'those'...he wanted real french fries...so I got out my crinkle cutter...and...I think the new Fry-Daddy may be a bad thing...haha...
...so we had veggie burgers and fries...I do love a good veggie burger...
...and it was my turn to choose the movie...and I chose...Our Little Sister...another subtitled one...I know...it seems so unfair to the Man...I'll try and do better next time...
...and the really amazing thing is ...that I could understand a few words of the spoken Japanese...so all those hours of Duolingo are starting pay off...
...I thought it was just a really sweet film...it's about these three adult sisters who take in their teenage half sister following the death of their estranged father...she is orphaned...apparently her mother is also dead...and the three sisters only meet her at the father's funeral...the three sisters are also estranged from their own mother...so it's a movie about some people...haha...I would recommend it...
...what have you been watching lately?...

The fries and burger look good. Do you mean your own vegan patties too? The movie sounds appealing to me. I'm not sure if I can see it here unless it's maybe on Netflix or You Tube.
ReplyDeleteI meant, do you make your own vegan patties?
DeleteHi Penny,
Delete...I got the movie from Netflix...and I enjoyed it...and yes I make my own veggie burgers a lot...but I also use the frozen packaged ones as well...and I've tried the 'real' vegan burger ones (like the beyond burger)...but in general they are too oily/greasy/fatty for me...

Oh that's good to know. One day I need to try and make some veggie burgers. It sometimes takes mea long while to work up to new things. I did manage to find the movie on You Tube. It isn't available in Canada on Netflix. I really wish Netflix would offer the same programming wherever they stream.
DeleteWOOHOO!!! I'm so excited for you about understanding some of the Japanese, that's such an exciting feeling! I felt the same way when I started being able to understand things in Norwegian (which, oddly enough, comes in handy as a language *way* more than one might expect. I've had the chance to use in daily life quite a few times!). One really great tip to help your listening comprehension: do a search for 'slow Japanese' (or, for anyone else out there learning a language, 'slow whatever-language-you're-learning'). There are websites (some paid, some free) and YouTube channels where people will read news stories slowly, often using simple vocabulary, so that your brain learns to recognize the Japanese (because listening and speaking use different parts of the brain than just reading do, so you've got to work those brain parts like a muscle!). I used to use a basic news in English website from time to time when I tutored English as a Second or Other language, and the stories were always fun and helpful for my student. Language learning is such a fun adventure! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Stephanie,
Delete...you're so right about the language...we actually watch a lot of Japanese news and documentaries and such...and they are almost always subtitled instead of dubbed so that I have a chance to hear the language...and I agree about the slowed down version...it's always one of the first phrases I learn in any language to ask someone to speak slower...I love-love-love DuoLingo and haven't missed a day in almost 800 days now...

Good tip, Stephanie. I just looked up Slow German videos on Youtube. I'm making good progress, especially at reading and writing, but full-speed conversation is still outta my league.
DeleteVery cool about the Japanese! Matt and I have talked about getting a fryer and always thought we'd end up using it perhaps more than we should if it was available.... yum!
