...it's pretty hard for me to believe that Little Sissie is about to have her 5th birthday...so it's time for her Madame Alexander doll...like big sissie...there will be a doll outfit and a big girl outfit that match...because what could be more fun than dressing alike...
...I've had the doll for over a year now...but I got her out of the attic and gave her a good scrub...
...and washed and styled her hair...in what I deemed to be a 'ballerina style'...
...she came with this little purple leotard and tutu...and I thought it would be perfect to have a big girl purple leotard and tutu...and the thrift store must have gotten a whole dance troupe's worth of purple tutus as they had a bout twenty of these darker purple ones...and it's so gathered that I plan to just open the seam and take out about 6 inches or so and refashion dollie's tutu to match this one exactly...
...and since they will both need a little wrap sweater to wear over their leotards to class...I cast on for the Girl's Ballet Kimono...I'm doing both front pieces at the same time as they're mirror images...one slanting left and one slanting right...
...but I pretty quickly determined that on the right front piece (which will cross in front)...that I did not like the way the decrease stitches were laying...
...now I've done lots of left and right leaning decreases on lots of sweaters and never really notiiced it before but there's a funny long laying stitch that gets sort of pulled up on the right leaning slant...and also the moss stitch border seems too pulled in...
...so I frogged that side and started again...trying to make sure that I pulled that bottom stitch of the decrease tightly and I transfered the border stitches to a slightly larger needle...but I still wasn't happy with it...
...so I frogged again...and did a little bit of research... and it's a common problem on long slanted decreases and of course there's a fix for it...it's a little bit fiddly...but I found a video that explains it really well here...
...and started again...and now it's pretty perfect...
...a much more pronounced and even edge between the stockinette stitch and the moss stitch border...
...what's in your workbasket this week?...
~Have a lovely day!
