...because Our Airman's flight was the "Acedemic Flight"...meaning that collectively they had scored the highest on their exams...they had the privilege of having "Town Pass" again on Sunday...so we met him on base to attend Church with him...all of the new Airmen had Base Liberty and were able to go to Church with their families as well...
...when we walked into the Chapel...the sidewalk was lined with trainees...and when they saw Our Airman approaching they started whooping and applauding...such a nice and supportive thing to do...
...Our Airman explained that every week prior to this one he had been part of the whooping crowd...and when anyone approached they called out what week?...and then as that recruit walked the gauntlet they shouted in unison "week ONE"...(or whatever week it was)...and clapped and cheered...I thought it was such a sweet and encouraging tradition...
...after Church...Our Airman got a coin for attending service every week during Basic...go here to read what Wikipedia says about the coins...
...I just thought it would be neat to have a picture of Our Airman walking through the passage...he said this is where they came for their initial processing when they first arrived...
...then the only real sightseeing that Our Airman wanted to do was to see The Alamo...we'd already been and we would probably have waited if we'd known that he wanted to go there...but it was fun to see it all again...
...then we walked a little bit on the Riverwalk too...
...so many people thanked our Airman for his service...some even shaking his hand or giving him a little hug...the people in San Antonio are so nice...
...there is a lot of hype about Whataburger in Texas...and Our Airman wanted to try it...they were super nice about making a vegan sandwich too...
...interesting history...and even more interesting...this article about Whataburer/What-A-Burger...which we have in North Carolina...
...then we just went back to the Airbnb...and did nothing...Our Airman made some phone calls and texted some friends he's been missing...
...and all too soon it was time to drop Our Airman off for the last time...for 8 more weeks he'll be in tech school in San Antonio...
...it was such a great visit!...
~Have a lovely day!
