...12.4...instead of Dinner and a Movie...

...we were late decorating for Christmas this year...but we finally got everything out and 'got 'er done'...
...so...of course...I made some snacks...I got some garbanzo beans out of the freezer...and I got out this jar of Black Garlic that the Man had gotten during the early days of the Pandemic for some recipe he was trying...and now I'm just trying to use them up...
...they're large-ish cloves...
...with a papery husk...
...this is what they look like peeled...
...then I got out my favorite garlic press...it's getting pretty old now...I 'won' it at a Pampered Chef party in North Dakota...in about 2005 or 2006...and I use it all the time...it has a handy little cleaner thingy attached to it too...

...and now...I'm wondering about that whole industry...how has Pampered Chef survived the pandemic when they can't have their in-home parties...online I guess...
...and added the black garlic to the beans...
...added lemon juice, tahini, and a pinch of cumin...using another favorite little tool...this set of tiny spoons for measuring things like smidgeons, pinches, dashes, and drops...it's so cute...and handy...
...whizzed that all together in my trusty...repaired...Emmie...
...added a tray of crudites and some toasted pita and we were set...
...Mom had given us a gorgeous poinsettia...I remember Nanny keeping hers and making them bloom another year...I think it's pretty difficult to do...and the Man's Mom just plants hers in the yard...they make a pretty annual green plant that way too...
...and another favorite thing...haha...you know how I save the rubber bands off of broccoli and kale and such...they're really sturdy bands...and I found another use for them...

...the red ribbons are at least as old as Our Airman...haha...and they had wire ties originally...but most of them have broken by now...so I've been replacing them with the rubber bands...if there's not enough of a tie left to wrap around the rubber band...then I just loop it through the back of the ribbon...
...and then they stretch and fit neatly over the railing posts...
...and hold the ribbon bows securely in place...
...so that's the outside decorating done...
...and I switched out my Porch Pillow...kind of wishing I'd gone with some more Christmas-y colours though...as this blue pillow is a little incongruent...
...and then we turned our attention to the inside decorations...turned on a Christmas music channel...and did that instead of watching a movie...

...have you done your Christmas decorating yet?...

~Have a lovely day!

  1. That black garlic was weird looking!! Glad it didn't make the hummas black as that would have been weird too! Love the Christmas-y decorations. Love, K

    1. Hey K,
...it's really mild...and Éphée just posted below that you can make your own in a crockpot...so that's interesting...

  2. Enjoy your trip. I always called my paternal grandmother Nanny :). The poinsettia, you can keep them, they don't like tons of water and in April you should cut it back. I listened to Gardeners Question Time (GQT) on BBC radio 4 about a year ago and they had a lengthy discussion about keeping a poinsettia going, but basically they are difficult to keep going.

    1. Hi Bean,
...I think you're right about them being difficult to keep going...I think Nanny put hers in the closet for a while...they needed some dark time...

  3. I love black garlic. I made some last fall in the crock pot and it worked pretty well.

  4. Planting poinsettias outside! Ha! That surprised me! One of the professors brought me one this year and, I'm afraid, it already looks a bit shabby. I wonder if it shall make it to Christmas. I think maybe I overwatered...

We've been listening to a lot of Christmas songs. I especially love the old ones, classy Bing Crosby style Christmas music. I've even strummed a few on the guitar. We got our tree last weekend and decorated--just in time for a big snow! It was lovely.

    1. Hi Beth,
...I definitely agree about the old Christmas classics...there are a couple that I've 'banned'...the one with Grandma in the title...for example ...haha...good luck with your poinsettia...
