NaBloPoMo is over
National Blog Posting Month is over and I did it - it wasn't hard and it was fun - I had even saved a couple of memes in case I ran out of material - but of course I didn't - I'm sure I even did stuff that I didn't blog about yet - a lot of it is Christmas gift related so it will have to wait...

Smoothie
I'm not really much of a 'smoothie' person...
They're ok once in a while 'though...
I'd been reading on some of the 'raw' sites that I frequent about adding spinach to your smoothies - and I thought 'Eeeeuuuuwww'...
But as more and more of these bloggers continued to rave about it - I had to give it a try...
The ingredients for my smoothie:
Orange Juice
Home made soy yogurt
A handful of pomegranate seeds - we happened to have some leftover from last night's pomegranate munching...
A handful of raspberries
A handful of spinach
Give that a whirl...
It looks just like a chocolate shake doesn't it...
It still had a bit of a 'crunch' to it - but I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was - this was my 'breaky' before Church this morning...
I'll be doing this again...

Service
Why is it that the youth of most of the Churches that I've been involved with are some of the most service oriented people in the congregation...
Our youth group (LYO) is no exception...
They met for an afternoon of Christmas cookie making (for our shutins)...
And followed that up with assembling food baskets for the needy...

App State Afghan
APP State Afghan
The first of two Appalachian State University afghans is complete...
I still have all the loose strings to weave in before I pack it up and send it off to my sweet nephew - sweet neice will have to wait a couple more months...
Maybe after Christmas I'll make it my only project for a while and get it done quickly...

Pocket Cooking
I remember many years ago seeing some commercials on TV for Reynolds wrap - where they demonstrated cooking in little foil pouches...
We have done this while camping too - but it's a great way to cook up some roasted potatoes with peppers and onions...
Just lay down a sheet of foil and put your potatoes, peppers and onions on it - sprinkle with salt and ground pepper and a drizzle of olive oil...
Top with another sheet of foil and crimp the edges...
Bake at 350 about 30-40 minutes until everything is done - it was delicious - the onions and peppers were nicely sweet and carmelized and the potatoes were perfectly roasted - delicious...
...these are still the pretty red potatoes from our garden - I'll have to take a picture of our storage area...

The Perfect Flower
We're studying the parts of flower in Science...
Drawing and labeling a flower and it's parts will help you remember them - the more senses you can involve in a learning activity the more likely you are to remember...

Readyman
The Webelos have been hard at work on what will probably be their last Activity Pin - Readyman...
I asked a nurse to volunteer some time and come and teach the boys first aid...
Thank goodness for Volunteers...
Splints were applied...
Heimlich's were administered...
Pulses were taken...
Shocks were delivered...
Bandages were wrapped...
There were a lot of head wounds...
Some must have been severe...
But the patients all remained cheerful...

Sledding Hill
We've been to the sledding hill already this winter (or is it still fall - hehe) - but there were lots of other people there and the Man-Cub can get a bit camera shy in front of his buds...
...so finding the hill rather deserted this past weekend I snapped a few of the happy sledder...
...someone had left this recyclable trash on the hill...
...so the Man-Cub decided to have a go with it before we recycled it for them...
...it must have gotten soggy because it didn't go all that well...
...but the little green disc fairly flew down the icy hill...

No Matter Where I Serve my Guests
It Seems they Like my Kitchen Best
This was given to me by my Mom - found in a box of things from Nanny's house...

Dish Towel Transfer
This is how I transfer an image to a dish towel for embroidery...
all I need is a sunny window...
I draw my picture (or copy one of the Man-Cub's) and then tape that to the window and then tape my dish towel over it and trace - just with a regualr pencil - it washes out - and then I'm ready to embroider - I can't show you any completed ones yet - they're for Christmas - of course...
You can see some of the Man-Cub's work here - http://affectioknit.blogspot.com/2008/06/i-may-have-new-addiction-um-er-i-mean.html

Mortgage Burning Ceremony
We had a mortgage burning ceremony at church - along with a spaghetti supper - which they call a 'spaghetti feed' - which I think is funny...

Insulator
There are probably not a lot of people who still know what this is...
It's an old glass insulator they were once used to insulate the telephone lines - this one was picked up by the Man on a walk along the railroad tracks beside his great grandmother's apple orchard in Balsam, NC when we were dating in high school...

Snowman Army
The Man-Cub spent the evening making a snowman army...
at one point he even moved them all up the sidewalk...
oooops... the general's head fell off...
Attention!
