...W.I.P. Wednesday...

...I buy these types of springy barrettes for my hair once it gets long enough to pull it back away from my face...

...go here to see how short it was the first week of June...
...these barrettes cost about $1...and they work just fine...
...until the little plastic piece breaks off that is...
...it always happens...I don't know if I'm too rough with them...or if I try to cram too much thick hair into them...or if I drop them once too often...maybe all of those things...
...but when this one broke...I thought I could pretty him back up with some things I have around the craft room...

...the beads are leftover from My Nephew's Wedding Shawl...so you've seen them before...

...and the fishing line...you've also seen before...I actually keep it in my sewing box...and it's a handy crafty thing to have around...
...so I made a bead snake...simply by stringing the beads onto the fishing line...which I did NOT cut...I left it attached to the spool...it's nice to have that weight...and I didn't know how long of a string I would need...
...then I took out the little springy piece so that I could wrap around just the top of the barrette...and I'll just pop it back in later...I happen to know they come out and pop back in...because they sometimes come out just when I'm clipping the barrette on my hair...and I just pop them back in...
...then I tied a surgeon's knot to the end of the barrette...through the little hole that used to hold the plastic top on...
...and then tucked that under the back...I'll wrap over it as I go and then it can't come loose...
...then holding the fishing line taut...I just lined up some beads...sometimes 2...and sometimes 3...across the top of the barrette...
...and kept them pushed up against each other nice and tightly...
...NO beads on the bottom of course...
...and continued in this manner to the other end of the barrette...
...and then I thought about tying it off and being done...but because I often think that more is better...and I still had a bunch of beads on my bead snake...I decided to wrap a second layer over the top...
...and so...I wrapped a second layer back down to the end...
...I tied it off...cut the line...and tucked it back under the wraps...and popped the little spring back in place...
...and then I clipped it in my hair...
...and you can see how much my hair has grown in 7 months or so...it'll be time to donate it again before we know it...
...I'm really pleased with how this little 15 minute project turned out...and you can bet I'll be replacing all of my broken barrettes with pretty beaded ones...

...I know I've got some pearly beads...and another packet of reddish hued multicoloured ones...

...what have you mended lately?

~Have a lovely day!
