...How to Dye Khaki Socks with COFFEE...

...for this week's W.I.P. Wednesday...I needed some new khaki coloured socks...as my pair has worn rather thin...I've got plenty of white cotton socks...and I didn't want to buy any more socks...I just want to transform and use what I already have...

...so...naturally I thought of dyeing them...but I didn't want to buy dye either...

...and you know how coffee stains things...well...kindof a khaki colour...not dark brown like coffee...
...so I took the grounds leftover from making our morning coffee...and added some water in a pot...and got it steaming hot...so...I didn't even waste any coffee...
...then I got out a pair of white cotton socks...
...and dunked those into the coffee water...and just let them 'steep' until the water/coffee had cooled...
...and then I just rinsed them in cool water...
...and let them dry...and I think they will do very nicely as khaki coloured socks under my khaki trousers...

...there are lots of natural (free) dyes out there...just think of something that leaves a stain...and you can put that 'stain' to good use...

...what's in your workbasket?...

~Have a lovely day!

  1. That's a great idea. I've always wanted to dye some cloths with tea but I haven't done it yet.

    1. Hi Penny,
...we once dyed some paper with tea to make it look old for a school project...there are so many natural dyes...it would be fun to experiment...

  2. neat - it's amazing how often we're doing the same things. i just dyed a shirt for Robert to take to his crazy music festival in Michigan (Electric Forest).
