...Over the Weekend...

...first of all...let me catch you up...our internet was out so I couldn't post "Dinner and a Movie" on Saturday...more about that in a bit...
...but Friday afternoon...the Man came home with contacts...

...he had been to the Ophthalmologist on Wednesday...but he didn't say anything to me about the new options available...he's always (and by 'always' I mean since he was 8 and first started wearing glasses) had a prescription for which contacts were not available...but now they are...

...now...obviously...I've seen the Man without glasses...but not really for any extended period of time...and I was so surprised when he walked in the door from the car without his glasses on...

...he still has to have reading glasses - actually 2 different ones...1 pair for like sit down in a chair and read and another pair for the pulpit...
...I definitely pushed the Easy Button for dinner on Friday evening...
...I just toasted some leftover Tunisian Bread and got some vegan lasagna out of the freezer and opened a can of marinara to pour over that...sprinkled with nooch...and made a salad...so dinner took about 5 minutes to prepare...

...without the internet we did not have our usual streaming options...but we did have Season 8 of Doc Martin on dvd from Netflix...so we watched a couple of episodes of that...

...the cable guy called early Saturday to say that he'd be there to repair the downed line at about 2 PM...
...so I went ahead and did the shopping...I got a lot less than last week
...and since the technician didn't arrive right at 2...I proceeded with some food prep...
...I mixed some brown and wild rice...with a little bit of marmite, Ms. Dash, and veg bouillon in the Instant Pot...it was quick and easy and delicious...
...I froze it in muffin tins for individual portions later...
...I had bought a pound of organic red grapes...and over the two day weekend I ate the entire bowl of grapes...crazy I know...but every time I walked by...I grabbed a handful and ate them...and pretty soon they were all gone...
...I cut up the pineapple and put it in a resealable bowl...prepared this way...it will disappear pretty quickly too...
...then I took all of the fibrous leftover bits...including the center part and blended it all up in the Vitamix and strained it for some delicious fresh pineapple juice...
...and I prepared the Mango...I'll probably eat the cubed bits on top of cereal for breakfast...and the smooshed bit from about the pit I'll add to some I already have in the freezer for smoothies...
...so then the technician arrived to fix the cable...

...you can see the line almost touching the driveway in this photo...a rather large tractor-trailer had come to the house behind ours on Friday and had snagged the wire and pulled it loose...so no cable for us...and quite the driveway hazard for them...when it got dark last night I went out and pinned a white sheet to the wire so that if anyone came down the driveway in the dark they would see it...
...he climbed up the ladder and fixed the wire...and we had internet again...YAY!...
...we got our first fresh garden delivery of the year...
...yellow squash and cucumbers...only out of the garden for about 20 minutes the 'farmer' said...
...so I immediately sliced up a still warm cucumber and devoured it...
...and then Sunday was also such a busy day...

...we had a celebratory meal to rededicate the Parish Hall after the renovations...

...the contractors who had worked on the project had been invited to come and celebrate with us...so it was fun meeting a lot of them...as everyone queued up for the meal...
...there were several displays of the work in progress around the room...
...I love this one decoupaged into an old window from the Parish Hall...
...and a newer tech slide show of the work in progress was playing on the screen...
...I had brought my own vegan ham...but the green beans and rolls were vegan...and the sweet tea too...
...it was packed with people...but with the new layout and the glass doors it doesn't feel at all crowded...
...celebratory cakes...
...not vegan...but they were pretty...
…after church...we had a VBS meeting and then the kids met to make tie-dyed t-shirts to wear at camp...
...it was messy and a lot of fun...
...some of the kids just did a few squirts of dye and they were off playing on the playground...and others were so intent on their design...
...my finished tie-dyed tee...wrapped and ready for it's requisite 8 hour wait...I won't be finishing this project until in the morning...
...later we lit the grill...and played with Jack...but it's very hot and humid...so we were mostly just running in and out...
...I put a package of poblano chiles and tofu on the grill when it got ready...
...grilled it all up to perfection...
...put the peppers in a papger bag for a bit...
...then when they had cooled and shriveled...
...then we peeled and seeded them...
...they were not too hot...really delicious...
…after dinner the coals were still barely hot...so I gathered the ingredients for vegan s'mores...
...and we toasted some vegan marshmallows on the grill...
...and smooshed them with some vegan chocolate chips and graham crackers...
...what a delicious end to a delicious day...
...OK...now the weekend is over...and Scout is on his way to his internship early this morning...so I got the t-shirt packet out and started rinsing in cold water...
...rinsed really well...
...this is the first time that you get to see your pattern...
...after a solo run through the washing machine cool cycle...I hung it on the line to dry...

...how was your weekend?...

~Have a lovely day!

***UPDATE***
...and now it's all dry...this is the front...
...and this is the back...

...I think the back is prettier than the front...

...but overall...I'm really happy with how it turned out...and I can't wait to see all the kid's creations when they leave for camp next Monday...

...have you ever tie-dyed anything?...

  1. my goodness that was a lot of stuff happening in your world!! of course i've done tie-dying....i think yours turned out prettier and brighter than any i've done. can you find out what dye they are using? i will get some (i've been using Tulip brand and it washes out alot even though i treat the cotton with soda ash as directed).

    1. Hey K,

I'll check on the brand...it was super easy...the bottles you see already had the dye in them...and we just shook them up...no mordant either...

      Love,

  2. You've been super busy and productive. I love having those kind of weekends myself. This weekend was somewhat quiet for me though I did get in some shopping at the pharmacy and watched a lot of movies/documentaries on Amazon. Some were good, like The Duchess movie, which I realize I'd seen before and others like, The Irish Cottage was not so interesting. I'm not sure how one makes a documentary about castles so boring.

    1. Hi Penny,
I'll have to add the Duchess to my queue...

  3. Do you use the pineapple puree once it is done straining? I am curious and see smoothie potential... I just always make a pineapple drink with the core (https://tinyurl.com/y7zu49wf), but your way might just beat that!

Excellent work on the tie-dye! It really is such a fun group activity--messy for sure!! We love it. That moment when you unwrap it and see the results is always a little like opening a present!

    1. Hi Beth,
I did add that leftover puree to a smoothie...just blueberries pineapple puree and cranberry juice...it was sweet and tart...
...and I was really happy when I unwrapped the shirt...
