...1.12...New House Update...

...I think I'll use this Friday update space to give you a little update on the new house...

...one current project and one previous project that we did a while ago...before we moved...

...this is from part of my organizing the kitchen...

...I wanted one of those neat car mats to keep everything pristine under the sink...

...a perfect fit...

...and everything back in place...so happy that I have a place for my recycle bin under there now too...

...now let's rewind a few months...and a note about the house when we bought it...according to our neighbors the previous owner didn't really 'live' in the house...but stored hundreds of boxes here...

...so this was the big room when we moved in...the rather light coloured carpet is horribly stained by the boxes that sat on it for so many years...

...we don't want carpet in this room anyway though...

...the rest of the downstairs (not the kitchen) already had hardwood floors...in this medium dark colour...

...you can see the hardwoods here at the bottom of the stairs...

...and from the stairs...

...we'll also be replacing the fireplace...so we went ahead and removed the black slate around it...

...we have done hardwood floors before...but not this time...

...the new wood has to be 'toothed in' to the existing floors...

...so really only the big room needed new wood...

...and oddly the two level landing of the stairs was also carpeted so that needed new wood as well...

...and the toothing in process went perfectly...

...but then everything had to be sanded down to get ready for the new clear finish...

...old wood floors and new wood floors both had to be sanded down...and all the stairs too...

...this is where the toothing in was done...

...it all looks brand new...

...the dining room...we'll be turning that into a den...we just don't really need a formal dining room...

...the hallway...

...and the new finish...

...it's a German manufactured clear coat with UV protection that is guaranteed not to turn yellow...or orange...

...on the stairs as well...I'm going to sand and refinish the rail as well...but that's another project...haha...

...and then we went out to Lowe's and got new wooden registers for the vents...

...we're really happy with the new wood floors...
