...I have had this broken necklace in my jewelry box for years...I mean...many...many years...Nanny pressed it into my hand one day as I was leaving after a visit...so that long ago...and she said...'it's not costume'...no idea why I never took it to a jeweler and had it fixed...the only thing wrong with it is the broken clasp...
...it doesn't look wonderful in its present condition...
...and I added the new clasp...which is bright gold in color...so it kind of clashes with the tarnished chain...which got me thinking why would you put a cheap chain on an authentic cameo...this chain is made in such a way that it will not come off of the pendant...(also why would you put a cheap clasp on it???)...
...so I mixed up a paste of baking soda and gave it a light scrub just with my fingers...and guess what it smelled like...if you knew Nanny...then I'm sure you guessed cigarette smoke...so it's not tarnished...it's just coated with 30 year old smoke...
...it all cleaned up so beautifully...and the cheap clasp doesn't clash with the actual gold of the chain...photographed here on a black book as that was the only black thing I could find...
...you can see the shell it was carved from on the back...
...it is really pretty now...and I'll take it to a jeweler and have the clasp properly repaired...
~Have a lovely day!

Love it!!! I have a cameo from Nanny as well. Mine is a broach. I’ll have to get it out and clean it. I believe it’s made out of copper. Love, K
