...Friday Favorites...and a definite UN-Favorite...

...let's start with the bad news first...
...well...after I picked out the stitches for the 'afterthought' heel...and knit that in red...I tried on the sock...well...I tried to try on the sock...but it was so tight that I couldn't get it over my heel...YIKES!!!...that's never happened before...I'm not a crazy tight knitter...and there seemed to be plenty of stitches...but I'm not used to doing colour changes on a sock (nor in the round for that matter) ...and obviously...I should have tried it on BEFORE NOW!!!

...so I checked Ravelry...and I'm actually not the only person who has had this problem...one person even added a thumb gusset where they heel was and turned hers into mitts...pretty ingenious...but I'm definitely not doing that...
...so...now...the Un-favorite part...Frogging...(not that that would be anyone's favorite)...
...so all unraveled...and I've started over...I just added more of the navy stitches in between the cacti...as I thought that would be the easiest way to add some space...

...onwards...
...the Man ordered this Pullman Bread Pan...to make sandwich bread...
...so...I got out my sweet sissie's sandwich bread recipe...
...and all the ingredients...
...mixed up the wet...
...and added to the dry...
...after kneading in the bowl...
...after the first rise...
...and into the new pan...I'm a newbie to this...but it doesn't look like enough dough...
...it baked up beautifully...but definitely not enough dough...next time I'll make 1 1/2 times the recipe...
...still...it's a splendid loaf of bread...
...and so delicious warm from the oven...not quite the right shape for sandwiches...but we'll definitely eat it up...

...5.7...What I Ate in a Day...as a Vegan...

...after vitamins and water this morning...I had some tea and toast...
...the heel...so the best part of the loaf...
...after my workout I had a chocolate protein shake...it was yummy and refreshing...
...lunch was a hodge-podge of leftovers...I didn't even put most of them into bowls...but just ate them out of the jars they were stored in...I-So-Lazy...and that's the last piece of pumpkin pie...so I'll be making another one soon...very soon...
...afternoon snack was hummus (imagine that...haha)...and some veggies and pita...
...then before dinner I whipped up some vegan mayo...to make potato salad and coleslaw...
...and we had that with some BBQ tofu, bread and baked beans...we've been eating most of our meals in front of the television...we need to get back to the table though...

...what did you eat yesterday?...

...5.6...W.I.P. Wednesday...

...progress on the Sonora Cacti Socks continues...
...I'm at the toe now...
...but I'm going to stop here and go back to the heel...this is the waste yarn for the afterthought heel...
...you have to pick that out...which seems a little bit tedious to me...I think I'd rather just knit the sock as I go...but I'm up for trying something new...
...and Kitten is thrilled to find a project neglected on the sofa...you can tell by the look in her eyes that I got here just in time to save my sock...haha...

...what's in your workbasket?...

...5.5. ...Tuesdays with Julia...

...we made a delicious brown sauce...one of Julia's many variations on Sauce Brune...
...this one has two names in the cookbook...Vegan Sauce Madère...and Vegan Sauce au Porto...

...either one is delicious...

...and all of the particulars are over at The Vegan Version...

...5.4...Over the Weekend...

...we had some storms blow through...again...such is spring in North Carolina...
...but the wind broke my pretty foxglove...
...but not the shamrock...which is still blooming nicely...
...and I only got two butternut squash plants in the small row I planted...
...I'm tickled to have them...and I may get more yet...
...later on Saturday afternoon...I cut up the cabbage we had gotten in our big online shopping...
... to make another half-gallon of sauerkraut...of course...
...we got the kosher salt in the shopping as well...and since we "allowed substitutions"...this is the kind we got instead of the kind we normally get...that's fine...this kind is just more expensive...and maybe they were out of the other kind...and I wear gloves for the massaging of the salt and cabbage...as it hurts my hands if I don't...
...and another successful batch of sauerkraut ferments on the counter...
...then on Sunday...the Man uploads his sermons on Saturday...but I don't watch them until Sunday morning...during 'regular' Church time...and I had a second cup of coffee...pretty rare for me...but delicious... ...after Church...I got out my new cookbook...
...actually...I went kinda crazy ordering cookbooks over the weekend...

...and bought all three of those kindle books on the top row...they were just a few dollars each...
...so this is the Banana Rabanada (Brazilian French Toast)...from Isa's Vegan Brunch...
...soaked some homemade bread in the mixture...
...both sides...
...and fried in a little bit of oil...
...flipped when crispy and golden brown...
...it made 6 slices...perfect for us...three each...
...and it really was perfect...
...crispy and moist and creamy...all the things French Toast should be...
...sprinkled with powdered sugar...and drizzled with Maple Syrup...

...5.2...Dinner and a Movie...

...it was time for pizza...
...we hadn't had that in a while...
...I baked it with some tofu...just because the oven was hot...but the tofu had to go back in to get crispier...
...and then another 'big salad' with homemade vegan ranch...homemade croutons...tomato and bacon bits...

...and the movie was Three Identical Strangers...

...it was the rather fascinating true story of a set of identical triplets adopted as infants by separate families...purposefully adopted into three different social classes...one blue-collar, one middle-class, and one affluent...for a study by psychiatrist Peter B. Neubauer...

...that's about all I'll say about this rather sad story of a cruel trick played on these three families...don't want to spoil it for you...

...what have you been watching lately?...

...5.1. ...Friday Favorites...

...a couple of new to me things I thought I'd share...
...we thought it might be nice to have some shelf stable plant based milk...you just mix a couple of spoonfuls into some water... JOI almond milk
...and you've got creamy, plain, unsweetened almond milk...that's handy...
...and to facilitate our FaceTime sessions with Our Airman and family...we got a selfie stick...this one is pretty neat...it has a tri-pod handle and it's extendable and you can tilt the phone at different angles...it's really handy for sitting on the sofa and chatting and we can both be in the frame for The Airman's Baby to reach for us...she's such a sweet little Facetime-r...
