...9.9...Over the Weekend...

...this will be mostly a Hallway Bathroom update...but I'll start off the 'regular' way...
...with breakfast...I had some of the Violife cream cheese on an everything bagel...it was delicious...not sure it's any different from the plastic tub variety...
...and then I did the regular weekly shopping...nothing really of note...
...but I got some mint for a recipe I wanted to try...they have this little area in the veg department with these little baggies...I was telling Mom about it...as I had pulled up a mint plant and stuck it into the baggie...and she said I wasn't supposed to do that...but only snip leaves off...uh oh...sorry...
...I stuck it into some water and I'll plant it in the pot with the remaining basil, parsley and chives...
...I think the only food prep I did was to bake some vegan cornbread...I'll need it for the leftover pozole soup this week...
...and I stuck the muffins into an empty cereal bag...I'm loving using these bags instead of ziplock ones...
...and then before we get started on the Hallway bathroom...we finished up just a few little things in the Master bath...for some reason...those last few little things take forever to accomplish...
...but I really needed to caulk the mirror frame we built...in hindsight...we should have painted the back of the molding we used...because the back is reflected in the mirror and it's unfinished wood...
...but caulking helps...
...the Man drilled into the shower frame...and added this nifty three pronged towel hook...
...and a neat little hand towel rack beside the sink...and you can see the mirror with the finished caulk and paint...
...now you can just open the shower door and reach your towel...easie peasie...
...and that's the final reveal of the Master Bath...I don't think there's anything else that needs to be done in there...

...so now...on to the Hallway bath...we're kind of putting the kitchen project on hold for a bit because my old school chum Amy is coming for a visit in just a couple of weeks...and we wanted the hallway bathroom finished for her visit...
...so we lugged the new countertop out into the yard to cut it to size...
...just a long straight cut...
...the Man at work...
...measured and laid out the template...
...drilled the corner holes...
...and the Man at work again...cutting out the openings for the sinks...
...back inside...the lights were removed...
...and the molding...
...which left rough areas that needed to be patched/spackled...
...so I did some patching...as the tile won't come that far up onto the walls...
...just working my way around both rooms...oh...you can also see where we removed the toilet...as we'll be replacing it later...
...the Man cut out and framed an opening to install a proper electrical box as the contractors who built the house had just pulled the wire through the wall without a box and wired up the light...those light bars don't require a box because they are lightweight and you can position the hole anywhere behind the bar...
...see what I mean...
...the neatly framed box...
...I cut a piece of sheetrock and spackled that into place...
...there was a stud behind the other hole...so the Man put in a shallow box...
...and I pieced and patched that hole as well...by placing a small piece of wood behind the hole and a small piece of sheetrock over that...
...and a first coat of spackling...
...first coat sanded...
...and second coat applied...
...next up will be the removal of this cultured marble sink...remember the Man just busted up the one in the Master bath...as it really was not worth saving because it was so yellowed in a weird pattern from the sun shining in the window for 20 years onto it...but this one was in a windowless room...and we'd like to salvage it if possible...

...so we removed the little side backsplash pieces...a little worried about the fact that the mirror seems to be sitting on the actual backsplash...yikes...

~Wishing you a lovely start to your week!

...9.7...Dinner and a Movie...and Blogger Comments...

...to my sweet sissie Karen who blogs from her boat at McCraw Sails...Hey K...Hi there...I don't think I've caught up with you in a while...the unpublished book and the code developer are fascinating...I'll have to get that book...how grisly is it?...the dinghy fix looks awesome...of course...and that looked like a tricky one with Blue Jacket...and your sunsets and sunrises are lovely...Love, T

...to karen from Pumpkin Sunrise...Hi Karen...I love your cardigan...such a lovely fall colour...we've had some cooler weather as well...and hoping it stays that way...I've just started winter sweaters for the grandbabes in Alaska...and Holly does look sweet sitting in the window...

...to Éphée from L'éphémère quotidienneté des repas et autres trucs de magie...Hi Éphée...everything looks so delicious...I love the vegan charcuterie board...and the crepes and the salad and the creamy tofu (of course)...

...to Penny from Snap That Penny...Hi Penny...your patio looks great...and I loved your new dresses...I like dresses but pretty much only wear them to church...

...to Beth from BLD IN MT : LIVING A SIMPLE LIFE IN THIS INTERCONNECTED WORLD...Hi Beth...Wthat was so fascinating about the Blue Jays...I didn't know that about the juveniles and I've never seen one...I'll definitely make a note in my birding journal if I do...and the concert with Hannah looks like great fun!...

...on the reading front...I've just started Sketches by Boz...a collection of short stories...really not what I would call short stories but little descriptive vignettes...and like I was afraid it's only available to me as an ebook...oh well...

...dinner involved a special trip to the grocery store...which almost never happens...but the Man asked if I would run out and pick up a few things...because he wanted to make an authentic pozole soup...
...so I got the beans and hominy that he requested...and I also got a cucumber and a red onion (do you say red or purple for this type of onion?) for another recipe I want to try...and then I happened to remember that we needed bran flakes and noodles...the Man eats those on his salad...I almost never eat them...but they were such a favorite of Jack-Jack...it's a sweet little memory of him...
...and then I saw this Violife cream cheese in a box instead of a plastic tub...so I got that too...I actually do need some...
...the Man made the delicious soup...
...and we had it with cornbread, chips and salsa...

...and for the movie...we finished up the Our Mutual Friend miniseries...it was really really good...

...what have you been watching lately?...

...9.6...Friday Update...the Garden Variety...

..I thought I'd give you a little backyard container garden update...
...the green beans have been quite the success...
...most days I get a harvest like this...
...and I just put them into a reused cereal bag for storage...
...and when the bag is full there is a pot of delicious home grown entirely organic green beans...
...and we're also still harvesting a handfull or so of tomatoes from our three little patio plants...they have been so prolific to be so small...
...continuing with the harvest part of the update...our basil and parsley are definitely ready to be harvested...the basil is just on the cusp of blooming as I can see the little flower buds at the top...
...so I cut away almost all of the parsley and basil...you can see the very small oregano still there...we've not harvested any of it and I need to do a little bit of research on how it grows as it's not behaving like I thought it would...
...so here's the harvest...
...and I planted the chives that our neighbor gave us...
...and another harvest of sorts...our huge marigolds were so tall and had so many blooms...I thought I'd save some seeds for next year...
...so I pulled off some dried flower heads...I'll probably do this with some of the sunflowers as well...if the birds don't eat them all...
...and then I just separated them into a bowl...I'll give some to Mom next time I see her...I think she'll like them a lot...
...the Man had rooted some Golden Pothos cuttings...
...and they really had some healthy looking roots...
...so I potted them back into the 'mother' pot...and took a few more cuttings to root...
...and just look at all the blooms on our patio tomatoes...they're still going strong...and hopefully each little flower will mean one tomato...
...and a little update on how does the garden grow...there are still a few sunflowers on the Belgian White that we planted in the 'white' garden...but you can see it's really more yellow that white...but the goldfinches loved it there and have been pecking away all of the seeds...

...and the Star Jasmine climbing on the banisters is getting out of hand...
...the real show stopper in the flower department this summer has been these volunteer Vincas...bright white and so bountiful with their blooms...
...Mom's hanging basket is still thriving...
...this is the garden area...two big pots of Okinawan sweet potatoes...we didn't get the little bugs eating the leaves here...
...and I've cleaned up and trimmed and wrapped the Star Jasmine so it's not so gangly...
...and a little upgrade for the outside spigot...I topped it's protective pvc pipe with a plastic jug and then balanced a few rocks on top to decorate it a bit...
...and then it was time to get those harvested herbs into the freezer...parsley first...
...I separated the leaves from the stems as I don't like the stems at all...in fact I'm not a huge fan of parsley at all...
...gave them a spin in my 30 year old salad spinner...
...nice and dry...they sure are pretty...
...the tall woody basil wouldn't fit into the sink...so I just broke them in half...
...and again...separated the leaves from the stems...
...and gave them a spin too...
...and laid them out on clean towels to dry a bit more...
...and into the freezer...we've got more than enough to last us all year...I'm sure...

...how does your garden grow?...
